Today we’d like to introduce you to Noa Chandler.
Hi Noa, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstories.
My name is Noa Chandler, I am 26 years old, and I was born and raised in Metro Detroit. As a professional working in the field for 10 years, I specialize in Portraits, Engagements, Product Shots, and Fine Art Photography.
That’s the basics. How did I get here? I would love to tell you.
I have always been a super artistic person, I love crafts and completing tasks by working through a process. In high school, I became interested in a career in art but didn’t have any specific medium in mind. I took many art classes, so when I ended up in Mr. Deluca’s class at Walled Lake Central High School, it was a no-brainer. Fate, if you will. He was an inspirational artist, and always encouraged his students to pursue whatever made them happy.
One day, he handed me a camera and told me to go and shoot. As I shot, I fell in love with creating realities from my imagination through photography. He pushed me to be a better photographer and person, and I am grateful I had someone to push me when I was young. Unfortunately, he has since passed away.
After high school, I became interested in other mediums within the photo realm and concentrated on them in college. Some of these mediums include the process of developing and printing film, alternative processes including platinum prints and cyanotypes, and working with medium and large formats.
I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design in Savannah, GA, with my B.F.A. in Photography in 2018. I am now based in the Metro Detroit Area.
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
Covid and the lockdown were the bumps in the road we didn’t see coming! Event postponements and cancellations were challenges to all of us.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in Portraits, Engagements, Product Shots, and Fine Art Photography.
What sets me apart from other photographers is the variety of work I do. This past winter, I had the opportunity to shoot a Winter Viking Wedding at Castle Farms in Charlevoix. This wedding was in negative degree weather, and most of the portraits were outside in the snow. I’ve worked as a set photographer on the movie Warpath, and the documentary Cruisin’ MoTown. I’ve taken product shots for Re.med.y at Rebel Farm LLC of their CBD Hemp Products, as well as photos of Synapse Films Merchandise line.
I am most proud of my Fine Art Photography being featured in over 25 shows worldwide. I am a Fine Art Photographer at heart and have a unique style because of it.
Who else deserves credit in your story?
My family encouraged my love of art from early childhood. My high school teachers, Mr. Deluca and Suzie Kramer Lietz were very encouraging. All of my professors at Savannah College of Art and Design were supportive, inspiring, and always available to help if needed. Sinead Cooke of Studio Sinead in Ann Arbor took time out of her busy schedule to serve me as a priceless mentor.
