Today we’d like to introduce you to Monique Morales
Hi Monique, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Photography has been my passion since I was a little girl. It offered an escape from reality and a sense of belonging in a vibrant community. This year marks a significant milestone for me—10 years in business—and I couldn’t be more thankful. I began my journey with lifestyle photography and have since developed a deep love for capturing weddings and elopements, which has become my specialty. Being a part of such special moments with my clients and their families is truly a privilege.
In addition to running my photography business, I am also involved with Reverie and Oak Creative Profiles & Presets. It is an online photography group led by the inspiring CEO, Rachel Ryder, myself and the talented tennessee photographer, Kayla Hood. This community, which Rachel has cultivated and allowed us to be part of, has been life-changing. It’s a space brimming with love, learning, passion, and growth. It has given me the confidence to create my own mentorship program, build a dedicated team for my clients, co-host styled shoots, and push the boundaries of my photography career.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s definitely been a challenging journey. Running a small business is no easy feat. You wear many hats—customer service representative, assistant, owner, laborer, social media manager, finance manager, and more. There are plenty of highs and lows along the way. It’s important not to get discouraged by things beyond your control and to remember that making mistakes is part of being human. Life—and your business—is what you make of it.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
As a local Grand Rapids photographer, I specialize in capturing couples, elopements, and weddings. I’m known for my vibrant personality and strong sense of community. I’m the photographer who will encourage you to step out of your comfort zone, have you laughing until your sides hurt, and charm you with my quirky personality. My goal is to make your session or special day truly memorable.
I take great pride in how far I’ve come. I’m not the same photographer I was 10 years ago, or even 6 months ago. The growth I’ve experienced through countless hours of self-education, exploring new editing techniques, staying on top of industry trends, and constantly honing my craft has been incredible. I cherish every moment of this journey. Really!
