Life & Work with Molly Meek

Today we’d like to introduce you to Molly Meek

Hi Molly, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
As a 35-year-old retired salon owner, I have been rediscovering myself since moving from Columbus to Detroit a year ago. After nearly two decades in the beauty industry, I achieved my dreams of owning my own brick-and-mortar salons, mentoring young stylists on building their own empires, and making a name for myself in my hometown of Columbus, Ohio.

Last summer, my daughter and I relocated to Detroit, MI, to start fresh and build a new life. Our move was centered around supporting my boyfriend through the second half of his general surgery residency. It was crucial for me that my daughter grows up in a loving and supportive home with two adults who love each other unconditionally, especially after divorcing her father when she was two due to his affair.

Shortly after our move, my own father unexpectedly passed away from his lifelong battle with alcoholism. This event changed everything for me. It reignited my self-love journey and shifted my perspective on life. I have been brought back to my core values, focusing on what truly matters to me: my family, friends, and finding joy in life’s little moments. I realized that true happiness comes from within, not from material possessions.

Before pursuing cosmetology, I attended school for Holistic Health to become a life coach. Although life took me on a different path, I now see how every experience was part of the process that shaped me into the woman I am today.

Today, I am a Manifesting and Mindset Coach, dedicated to sharing women’s voices, stories, and life experiences. My mission is to connect women with similar stories, reminding them they are not alone. Despite circumstances that can make us feel excluded or lonely, there is always someone out there going through something similar.

I am now the CEO of a media company called “Seven Society” which hosts multiple women-run podcasts, blogs, eBooks, and provides social media management and consulting for spiritual entrepreneurs. Additionally, I recently launched a leg of it, that is an online community as a social club for spiritual women seeking support, community, and friendship with like-minded individuals. We have a virtual community online and host pop-ups and retreats to connect women across the country, helping them build their networks because, as women in America, our network is our net worth.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a smooth road. In fact, it’s been as bumpy as the roads here in Detroit, with one pothole or speed bump after another. My biggest struggles were during my time in the beauty industry. I was very young when I started doing hair and essentially grew up in the industry, which brought with it a lot of public scrutiny and opinions. As an imperfect person, I made countless mistakes and would certainly do some things differently if given the chance for a do-over.

Most of us become stylists because we are creative artists with a passion for making others look and feel beautiful. The majority of us don’t have business degrees or backgrounds in finance or marketing. Our skills are self-taught, and we adopt a learn-as-you-go mentality early on. I spent many years stumbling uphill. However, the hardest thing for me to navigate in the beauty industry was the “mean girl” mentality—the ego, entitlement, overexposure, and the victim/villain roles everyone plays.

I had many experiences that made me feel like I was back in middle school, being bullied by frenemies. We all know gossip is like glitter, you can never truly clean it up.

Growing up, I often experienced a lot of bullying, and “mean girls” wasn’t just an iconic movie—it was my reality. Now at 35, with a daughter who is already experiencing bullying at age 9, it’s been humbling to go through it alongside her. This allows me to relate, connect, and share real-time similarities to show her how to navigate through her own experiences with grace. I am forever grateful for the trials and tribulations I endured, as they have shaped who I am and my perspective. I wouldn’t change a second of it, as it has built me and the foundation of my new companies since leaving the beauty industry.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I have over 20 years of experience in coaching and connecting with women. It’s my passion and truly what I believe is my purpose on this earth.

Now that I am no longer sewing extensions behind the chair, managing salons, or educating other stylists, you can find me spending my days running social media for small businesses, writing my soon-to-be-published novel, and consulting and coaching women on business, love, and relationships. I also host podcasts and community events.

I specialize in manifesting and mindset. I believe thoughts become things, and what we thought about ourselves or to ourselves 3-6 months ago is the exact reason our reality is the way it currently is. I teach my clients and community tangible ways to shift their thoughts and worldview, equipping them with the tools to handle everything on their own in real-time.

I always tell my clients when onboarding them that the goal is to “fire” me. Mentors are the cheat codes to get us where we want to be even faster, but we shouldn’t become dependent on anyone. Everything we need is within us; sometimes we just need a reminder of our power, purpose, and potential. That’s where I come in!

I am most proud of my ability to pivot and pick myself back up after something doesn’t work out the way I envisioned. I always come out on top, and my resilience is truly my superpower. This sets me apart from others. I am always the underdog who makes the impossible possible with my mindset and manifesting methods. This is exactly why my clients achieve such successful results in their own lives, learning how to pivot in real-time.

How do you define success?
I define success by slow mornings, time freedom, and a small group of friends and family who unconditionally love and support me.

I have experienced what society labels as successful in the material world, and I wasn’t nearly as happy as I am now without all those benchmark moments.

Since starting over, switching career paths, and moving states, I don’t have $20k a month rolling in anymore, or the large group of girlfriends, or the hometown security blanket, but my heart is so full, and my daughter and I have never been happier.

So slow down.
Take inventory of what’s working, who’s worth what, and follow your gut.
It may look crazy to society, but it only has to feel good to you.
