Today we’d like to introduce you to Michael Yoder.
Hi Michael, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
After completing a master’s degree and spending several years as an HR director, I transitioned to work focusing on agency and corporate staffing. This led to the use of social media to network with business contacts. As I educated myself and practiced the use of social media, I shifted to social media training and consulting with various companies and organizations. This included starting a business networking group on LinkedIn that has grown to over 18,000 members. Eventually, I was recruited by Spectrum Health System and have spent the last nine years leading their social media.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
When I graduated from college, social media didn’t exist. So, I had to learn by doing and by trial and error. It’s gone from being considered a fad to an integral part of most businesses’ communication and marketing.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m the Lead Digital Marketing Specialist — social media for Spectrum Health West Michigan. I’m responsible for strategy, implementation, execution, and managing their social media. I’m known for my technical expertise and collaborative attitude. And I love learning and staying up to date on changes in social media.
I’m especially proud of the work that we’ve done during the pandemic to communicate lifesaving information in timely and relevant ways using video, live streaming, and graphics.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
You don’t have to have everything figured out. A willingness to learn and adapt to change can take you a long way. And, you can’t go wrong by being kind.
