Today we’d like to introduce you to Melissa Gulley

Hi Melissa, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I have always love makeup! People had been telling me for years that I should be a makeup artist but it was something I just wasn’t into. But I think 2020 made everybody look at their lives differently, right? So I started taking makeup seriously in late 2020. But at this time I was only doing my makeup, I was scared to do anyone else’s face. But it all started when I made my youtube channel doing my makeup and talking about God called Slay and Pray. And through this channel, I began to fall more and more in love with makeup. In November 2022 I enrolled in Online Makeup Academy, and in July 2023 I became a certified makeup artist!

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Oh, no! Not at all! I think just a lot of self-doubt, a lot of thinking that I wasn’t capable of being a makeup artist. Fear played a big factor! And because of fear, I didn’t put myself out there. I didn’t market myself. Their arw so many great makeup artist out there so the competition is crazy and I was scared. I was certified last year 2023 but did not get my first client until earlier this year. But After growing more confidence, my clientele has beens growing.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a Christian makeup artist. I specialize in more natural, soft glow make up. I think what sets me apart is, I’m more of a natural make up artist. I like for your skin to look like skin and for you to leave my chair still looking like yourself just enhanced.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the fact the my city is full of great people. I like that I’m surrounded by such creative people. Although I am always meeting new people, I do dislike the fact of how small my city is.
