Today we’d like to introduce you to Marvin Hairston.
Hi Marvin, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Inspiration for being a dj was rather gradual. But started around the break dancing era. Not going to mention how many years ago. LOL Although merely experimenting with a turntable and tape deck my greatest music genre influence was techno at the time. And some Break Dance music. In which years later my my main genre influence has turned into Garage House and House Music. In which this stands as my current genre as a dj. A LOT of years ago before producing music was a thing, I was introduced to it as a hobby. Those influencers were Dj Cent Detroit and Dj Eddie Fludd. Producing music is basically on the side of being a dj. Thanks to Dj Cent being in the background I have furthered that hobby and now publishing on a record label. Which is now Naeba Records and absolutely am looking forward to a brighter future as a music producer/remixer.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have to be honest. No it hasn’t been a smooth road. Being a dj can come with a lot of “backstage politics”, and there are too many to mention. On aside of that not having the right connections you have to work harder on getting your sufficient exposure. Being a REAL dj these days is like an Indie singer. There’s so much competition out there, that being heard and seen can be a constant challenge. Being original with your style of music, performance, networking, and supporting are some key ways to rising.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m VERY musically driven. Any form of musical output that is done with me, is done with complete compassion. When djing I make sure I feel my crowd telepathically to ensure an outstanding experience everytime! When producing/remixing music my heart goes into beat! I’m not throwing instruments together and saying I made a song! I specialize in UK and US Garage House Music. I am mostly proud of the music that I put out. A lot goes into it and is evidence of time and compassion that went into it.
Do you have any advice for those just starting out?
Short and sweet…. You have to promote yourself and support your fellow artists! On aside of that, being professional will help most also.
