Life & Work with Lourdes Osorio of MADISON HEIGHTS

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lourdes Osorio.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
My story really began with a passion for health and fitness, but more importantly, a passion for people. I wanted to create a space that was welcoming, supportive, and affordable—a place where anyone, at any stage of their journey, could feel comfortable showing up for themselves. What started as me working one-on-one with clients slowly grew into what is now BL Fitness and Health, a community built on strength, encouragement, and the belief that health is a lifestyle, not a quick fix.

The road here hasn’t always been easy. Like many small business owners, I’ve faced challenges—including navigating the pandemic—but those moments reminded me why this work matters so much. Health isn’t optional, it’s essential. Those challenges pushed me to get creative, adapt, and find new ways to support people even when times were tough.

Today, I’m proud that our gym has become one of the city’s hidden gems. Tucked away but full of energy, it’s a space where people of all ages and fitness levels come together to grow, learn, and push past their limits in a safe and motivating environment. What makes us unique is the family feel—we celebrate every victory, no matter how small, and we remind each other that it’s never too late to start.

For me, this isn’t just about fitness—it’s about resilience, community, and creating longevity in people’s lives. That’s what keeps me going every day, and that’s why BL Fitness and Health continues to thrive as one of the city’s best-kept secrets.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but I truly believe the challenges have shaped me and the business into what it is today. Like many small business owners, I had to navigate limited resources, long hours, and the ups and downs of building something from the ground up. One of the biggest struggles was during the pandemic—it forced me to completely rethink how to keep people motivated, connected, and moving when gyms were shut down.

There were also moments of doubt, times when it would have been easy to give up. But every struggle reminded me why I started: to help people build healthier, longer, stronger lives. I leaned into creativity, resilience, and faith, and those tough seasons pushed me to grow not only as a trainer and business owner but also as a person.

The road hasn’t been smooth, but it’s been worth it. Each challenge has made the community we’ve built even stronger, and it’s shown me that the true foundation of this space is not just fitness—it’s perseverance, adaptability, and heart.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
At BL Fitness and Health, I specialize in creating a balanced approach to wellness that blends functional movement, strength training, and nutrition guidance. My goal is to help people not only look and feel better but also move with ease and confidence in their everyday lives.

What I’m most proud of is the community we’ve built. From beginners taking their first steps into fitness to clients pushing toward new goals, everyone here feels supported, seen, and celebrated. It’s not just a gym—it’s a safe space where progress is measured in more than just numbers on a scale.

What sets us apart is the personal connection. I don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach; I meet people where they are and help them build lasting habits. We live by the 80/20 rule—80% nutrition, 20% fitness—because health is about lifestyle, not quick fixes.

That’s why I believe BL Fitness and Health has become one of the city’s hidden gems: it’s a place where people gain strength, confidence, and a community that feels like family.

Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
My advice for anyone just starting out is simple: start small, stay consistent, and give yourself grace. You don’t have to overhaul your entire life overnight. Focus on one healthy habit at a time—drink more water, move your body a little each day, or pay attention to your portions. Those small steps add up, and before you know it, they become part of your lifestyle.

Something I wish I knew in the beginning is that the journey isn’t linear. There will be setbacks, busy seasons, and days when motivation just isn’t there—and that’s okay. What matters most is showing up for yourself, even in small ways, and remembering that progress looks different for everyone.

Also, don’t compare your chapter one to someone else’s chapter twenty. Trust your process, ask for help when you need it, and know that you don’t have to do it alone. Community, accountability, and patience are some of the most powerful tools you’ll ever have on this journey.
