Life & Work with Leah Holston

Today, we’d like to introduce you to Leah Holston.

Leah Holston

Hi Leah, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
While I’ve always been creative at heart, I found photography shortly after my first son was born, and that was the outlet I needed to begin to push myself creatively. It was also the endeavor that prodded me to take myself seriously as a business owner.

Then 2020 came along. Ha! With the whole world in complete chaos, I found my personal life turned even more upside down. I took a second job at a local flower shop, not knowing a thing about floral design, but I quickly fell in love with it and knew I wanted to continue pursuing floristry. I became a certified florist, and when that flower shop closed, I knew I wanted to keep pursuing floristry. I sold bouquets out of my home for a little while as a little side hustle, and then in late 2022, the perfect location became available to open a storefront.

It was a gamble, but I decided to step into the next part of my life: I opened my own flower shop and named it Sunday Morning Flowers, in an “easy like Sunday morning” kind of way — the fresh blooms on your table as you sip your coffee and puzzle over the morning crossword while your favorite music floats softly around you.

And while I didn’t know it at the time, the flower shop turned out to be exactly what I needed in my life! Using my creativity in a new way brought back that spark for life, and now, over a year into this, I am still dreaming and I can’t wait to see how Sunday Morning Flowers evolves from here!

We all face challenges, but would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve always had an unwavering faith in myself and a work ethic to back it up. I’m proud of that drive, my ambition, and the hard work it takes to bring a dream to life.

My heart has always been deeply in love with creating and making things beautiful, but I’m not afraid to get my hands dirty either, and I’m proud of the ways I’ve worked and struggled to make this life my own.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I specialize in bringing a smile to people’s days! I mean, I have the most experience in weddings, but I think it’s too soon to really say what area of florals I specialize in. So as I gain more momentum, I’m focusing on being a positive interaction in people’s days!

Do you have recommendations for books, apps, blogs, etc?
I’m a bit old school so I tend to stick to books:

*The Road back to You – I love reading about Enneagrams and personality types.

*Everything is Figureoutable – Self Help books are probably my favorite genre of books but this one is my favorite!

*Harry Potter- I read a bit of this series with my boys every night, in a British accent of course.

*The Boy, the Mole, the Fox, and the Horse- My favorite book of all time. It’s full of wisdom and life lessons.
