Today we’d like to introduce you to Lakin Hering.
Hi Lakin, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start, maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers.
I’ve always enjoyed arts and crafts and making someone’s day with a handmade card. I lived for that when I was a kid. Fast forward to high school, I took a graphics communication class for two years that taught me a lot about the industry and prepared me for what I would experience in college. I earned my Bachelors in Graphic Design from Full Sail University. Full Sail really helped me learn the skills to turn what I loved to do into a business and provide a professional and unique experience for my clients.
I started my business in 2021 and have had the opportunity to bring many business owners’ ideas and dreams to reality by setting them up with a strong visual foundation for their business. Custom logo design, branding, and strategy can help businesses stand out from their competitors and establish recognition and trust with their target audience. My favorite thing about my job is being able to take their ideas and bring it to life for them and watch them grow their business throughout the years; I would say this experience is similar to making someone’s day with a special handmade card – but the visuals are a little better!
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I would say the biggest challenge is having consistent client work and being a one-woman show. The workweek consists of managing social media channels, client work, batching content, managing emails, learning new skills, running ads, marketing – the list goes on! The most important lesson I’ve learned is finding the balance between client work and staying consistent on social media because that is the main source for new clients and keeping this cycle going.

I offer custom logo design, branding, and website design to creative entrepreneurs. I specialize in crafting a visual foundation for creative businesses. I would say I’m known for creating brands that stand apart from their competitors through a thorough research and development phase. I like to create long lasting relationships with my clients; I really enjoy seeing them grow their business. I usually like to stay in contact and check in to see how their branding is growing with their business, and I’m always happy to answer any questions and bounce ideas around. In the future, I look forward to offering my clients some tools they can use within their business to speed up client workflow and content creation.
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
Many of us have heard this many times, but the best advice really is to “just start.” If you’re looking to get into graphic design, there are so many resources out there to learn new skills such as YouTube, SkillShare, etc. As an overthinker, it took me a few years after high school to decide that this was my path. But when I finally decided to take the leap, I put everything I had into it and earned my degree in two years at the top of my class. I didn’t want to waste any more time! Whether you’re self-taught or need the discipline from college like myself, decide what route you want to take and just start and practice, practice, practice. You’ll be so happy you did.
