Hi KP, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My love of art started early, and is equally tied to my love of travel. I recall checking out a book from the Breton Downs Elementary library, about Da Vinci. It made me obsessed with traveling to Italy, which spawned years of language courses, many visited countries, and countless visited museums, galleries, and more.
The more stories I collected, of both my own bizarre life, and those I encountered on travels, there was a strong desire to share these experiences with the ever-changing world.
This came to a head with my recent 1-year long performance piece called Project: A Year In Yellow, where I wore all yellow, all the time, for 365 straight days and used the way the public interacted with me, a new source of inspiration.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every artist has struggles, mine being anything from having fingers amputated, to inability to afford the materials I desire for a piece!
Often these struggles will make me change the direction of a piece, thus adding to its animus and story.!
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
My daily work involves hospitality, and working in this industry has furthered my ability to travel and pull source material for what later become conceptual pieces.
How do you think about happiness?
People make me happy – there’s so many kinds of us! My casual studio playlists are eclectic mixes of drag queen dance beats, Māori metal, Bollywood, and mariachi love songs.
The cultures cultivated around the world are beautiful.
