Today we’d like to introduce you to Kathryn Anderson.

Kathryn, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I started baking when I was a little girl, and ever since baking has been a passion of mine I started baking for my friends and family. With all of the overwhelming support, I decided to start my own business, Sweet Kathy’s, in 2010. I started off doing graduation parties, wedding showers, birthdays, etc. Over the past fifteen years my business has grown tremendously and I have branched out into the wedding industry. I create custom dessert tables for weddings, and I still love being apart of smaller celebrations such as birthdays, gender reveals, showers, and more!

I graduated from Oakland University with a degree in Human Resources, but pursuing my business dream has become my passion. I love being able to do something that I love.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?

I love being self-employed and wouldn’t have it any other way. Being able to run a successful small business is a dream come true! It is long hours and I wear many hats from baking, social media, finances, inventory, and talking to clients is a full day! My biggest challenge now that I have two children under three is balancing my work and homelife, especially during my busy season has been a challenge. For example, last year in October was a crazy busy month with events. I had four weddings in one day, got all of them set up, and after the last wedding was set up I went to Labor and Delivery and delivered my daughter the next day. I have an amazing support system, that will step in and help me, and I am so very thankful It takes a village behind the scenes to pull it all together!

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
After working a few years with my business, I knew that I wanted to expand into larger events, and that is how I became involved in weddings. I do everything from small intimate gatherings, life celebrations, weddings, and large corporate events. It is my mission to make sure that every event is beautiful and delicious. I am known for my personal customer service, design, detail, and of course my delicious desserts.

All of my dessert tables are a work of love from the mini desserts to the beautiful cakes. I pride myself in providing a luxury dessert service. I provide delivery and set up with beautiful cake stands, display pieces, dessert signs and linens. I love to hear from my clients that their guests loved the mini desserts and were able to mingle and continue to celebrate while enjoying delicious desserts. I take care of the all the details so my clients can concentrate on all the exciting stuff happening with their event.

Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
From a business standpoint there is something magical about creating beautiful and delicious desserts, and seeing others enjoying your desserts is deeply rewarding and makes me so happy!

From a personal standpoint its never easy being your own boss, but working around my family’s rhythm instead of someone else’s schedule is extremely rewarding, and being there for my husband and two beautiful children brings me so much happiness!
