Today we’d like to introduce you to Jurnee Kennedy.
Hi Jurnee, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My story started with me being a very shy kid who was scared to try a lot of things and step outside of my comfort zone. I always took school and academics seriously, and through that, I began to discover my strengths, understand my weaknesses, and learn more about who I was. I grew up playing sports, and eventually that passion grew into spending most of my days in the gym. Fitness became more than just something I enjoyed. it helped me build the strength, discipline, and confidence I needed in other areas of my life. As I became more comfortable with myself, my personality started to show more. I began creating genuine connections with people, and those connections opened doors to opportunities and experiences I never expected. A lot of the lessons that have shaped me came from my family. My father and I clash sometimes, but deep down, I know we are very similar. The advice he has given me over the years has stayed with me and continues to guide me into adulthood. My mom gave me the hope and encouragement I needed to keep going, and my sister has always been one of my strongest support systems when I needed it most. Whenever I feel a moment of doubt, my family knows exactly what to say to help me refocus and get back to being myself. Looking back, I think my journey has really been about growing from a shy kid who was afraid to take chances into someone who is confident enough to create opportunities, build connections, and keep pushing myself toward where I want to be.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. One of the biggest struggles I’ve faced growing up, and something I still work through today, is moderate anxiety and social anxiety. Being naturally shy made it difficult for me to put myself out there, meet new people, speak up, or feel comfortable in unfamiliar situations. There were many times when I would doubt myself or let fear hold me back from opportunities. Over time, I’ve learned that I can’t always wait until I feel completely comfortable or confident to take a step forward. I have to push myself, even when it’s uncomfortable. Every day, I try to come out of my shell a little more, whether that’s meeting someone new, speaking up, taking on a leadership role, or simply putting myself in situations that challenge me. I still have moments where my anxiety gets the best of me, but I’ve learned not to let those moments define me. The person I am today is a result of continuing to show up, even when it’s difficult. My family, fitness, school, and the connections I’ve made along the way have all helped me build the confidence to keep moving forward.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Currently, I’m a college student majoring in Radiologic Technology, which is essentially the world of X-rays and medical imaging. I’m a first-year Radiologic Technology student and currently going through my clinical rotations, where I’m gaining hands-on experience and learning how to work with patients in a real healthcare setting. I’m really proud of how far I’ve come. I’ve always loved the science and healthcare field, although I can’t say I’m the biggest fan of the math that comes with it. My major is basically physics in disguise, lol! I’ve definitely had moments where I’ve doubted myself and my ability to understand the physics behind radiography, but I’ve learned that once I understand the concept, it actually becomes much simpler. That has taught me not to let something intimidate me before I’ve given myself the chance to understand it. As a Radiologic Technology student, I’m learning how to perform different types of imaging, from routine X-rays to fluoroscopy and GI procedures. What I love most about this field is its diversity. There are so many directions I can take my career, and I don’t feel limited to one path. My goal is to continue my education and become certified in CT and Interventional Radiology (IR). And if I ever get bored, which I probably will, I’d love to explore MRI as well! Long-term, my goal is to earn my master’s degree in anatomy and eventually pursue a PhD, with the dream of becoming a radiologist. I also minor in Holistic Medicine because I’m interested in natural remedies and looking at health from different perspectives. What I think sets me apart is that I’m not afraid to keep learning and reinventing myself. I have a lot of interests, but they all connect back to my love for science, healthcare, helping people, and understanding how the body works. I’m still at the beginning of my career, but I’m proud of the path I’m creating for myself, and I genuinely love what I do.
What quality or characteristic do you feel is most important to your success?
I would say the most important quality to my success has been being respectful and kind while still staying true to who I am. I believe you can go far in life by treating people well, being genuine, and making meaningful connections without having to change who you are to fit in. I’ve experienced both successes and failures throughout my journey, and I value both. Every success has reminded me of what I’m capable of, while every failure has taught me something I needed to learn. I try not to look at failure as a setback, but as a lesson that I can carry with me into my next opportunity. For me, success isn’t just about accomplishments. It’s about how I treat people, how I grow from my experiences, and how I continue to become a better version of myself. Staying kind, respectful, authentic, and willing to learn has helped me get to where I am today, and I believe those qualities will continue to carry me forward.
