Life & Work with Jazmine Robbins

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Robbins.

Hi Jazmine, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Hi my name is Jazmine Robbins and I am the owner and founder of Sweet Lips by Jazz.

I wanted to start a business because my older sister LaZayria Robbins, owner of Luxurious Summers, has a business. I look up to my sister, and she my role model. I have always loved lip-gloss and would always ask my mom to buy me some whenever we went to the store. I thought it would be a great idea to start my business with my very own lip-gloss. I started with 8 candy-scented lip-glosses; Orange Sherbet, Lemonade, Green Apple, Cotton Candy, Bubblegum, Birthday Cake Surprise, Tropical Smoothie, and Grape Popsicle.

Later on, I added Paradise Island, Strawberry Passion, Grape Soda, Cupcake, Sweet Cherry, Jazzy’s Punch, and Strawberry Shortcake. I also have an ice cream addition that came out in June 2022 which includes: Vanilla Bean, Chocolate Chuck, Strawberry, Unicorn, Banana Split, Bubblegum, and Cookies & Cream.

On July 23, 2022, I added organic body butter to my collection which includes: Bubblegum, Birthday Cake Surprise, and Cotton Candy. I also have a variety of accessories for girls which includes: jewelry, hair scrunchies, purses, wallets, sleeping eye masks, and slippers.

Each year I have two fundraisers, Valentine’s Day gift sets and Easter Baskets, that help me to raise money to create inspirational gift sets for girls struggling with low self-esteem and depression. This year, I made inspirational gift sets for boys as well. These gift sets include: lip-gloss for girls, journals, inspirational messages, words of affirmation, hair scrunchies for girls, bracelets, decorative pens, and treats.

This year, I raised enough money to make inspirational gift sets for women at the shelter as well. So far, I have been able to donate over 300 inspirational gift sets, and during the month of August, I will be donating another 200. These gift sets have been given to local shelters, inner city Girl Scouts, Conferences for young girls & teens, back-to-school giveaways, and after-school programs.

I am also currently collaborating with Kaylynn Martin, owner of Kakes the Great Popcorn. We started this collaboration in the fall of 2021. Kaylynn and I created a promo box for teen girls that includes both of our products such as popcorn, lip-gloss, and a variety of accessories. Each box that we create will have something different each quarter throughout the year. You can find more details about our collaboration and promo box at www.kakesthegreat.com

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Being an entrepreneur has not always been easy. Some of the things I enjoy about being an entrepreneur is making my own lip-gloss, giving back to the community, connecting with other young entrepreneurs, and of course, making money. One struggle that I encountered was making my body butter. After a year and a half and many ingredients later, I finally perfected my formula. Some days were frustrating, and I wanted to give up, but I never quit, and now I have a formula for my body butter that I absolutely love.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am currently going into the 8th grade at Saginaw Arts and Sciences Academy. My concentration is ELA/Global Studies. I’m mostly proud of earning A’s and B’s all while running my business. I am unique because I am one of just a few young entrepreneurs at my school.

What would you say has been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
One of the most important lessons that I have learned along the way is that it is better to give than receive. My mom and dad have always taught me how to be a blessing to other people, and God will always make sure that I have everything I need.
