Today we’d like to introduce you to Janaya Black.
Hi Janaya, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Rockey and Janaya Black are a husband-and-wife team that runs a thriving film production company out of Detroit, MI. With a focus on faith and family-friendly films, they have been successfully producing content since 2004.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
While our road hasn’t been a smooth one, it also hasn’t been tremendously tough. Our biggest hurdle along the way has been securing the funds to produce our projects, but having to find creative ways to do that has lended heavily to us being able to make the most of every dollar we use. We have learned to be thrifty while being still effective. Fortunately, by taking the road less traveled in order to make our movies, God has blessed us by allowing our work to be seen around the world, thereby opening up new opportunities and generating investor interest in our work.

Rockey is an actor and producer, and Janaya is a writer/director/producer. With almost 20 years of applied industry experience, we are known for our integrity, professionalism, honesty, and for creating a great set environment. One of the things that we are most excited about is that people genuinely love working with us. We make treating everyone we work with, with love and respect and that goes a long way, and we feel that is one thing that sets us apart.
What does success mean to you?
We define success by accomplishing our goals, no matter how big or small. We feel extremely blessed to be able to do what we love and honor our Christian values while doing it.
