Today we’d like to introduce you to Erick.
Hi Erick, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I was born on October 2, 2000, in Plano, Texas, and raised in Garland by my Mexican immigrant parents, Silverio Hernandez Perez and Lorenza Leos Jimenez. As a first-generation Mexican American, my upbringing was deeply rooted in hard work, family, and music. My journey as DJ Erandes began when I was just nine years old, following my dad, better known as Sonido Genesys, to his events. At first, I wasn’t excited about the long hours of setting up equipment, playing music, and tearing everything down afterward, but over time those experiences became the foundation of my career. Being surrounded by music at such a young age taught me not only how to DJ but also the importance of dedication and connecting with a crowd.
When I was 14, I discovered music production and realized I could create my own songs instead of only playing other artists’ music. I still remember the feeling of hearing one of my first tribal tracks played through the speakers at one of my dad’s events and watching the crowd react. Even though I was just a beginner, seeing people dance to something I had created was a defining moment that confirmed this was what I wanted to do. That passion continued to grow, and at 17 I became involved with the Dallas dance crew Dallas Xclusive Boyz, where I was introduced to the city’s unique remix culture. Their choreography relied on custom remixes that transformed familiar songs into something completely new, and that scene introduced me to talented remixers like DJ Tequila, FernBeatz, DJ Dalla$, DJ Rolly, DJ Fantasy, Ralphy Ralph, DJ Panik, ETX, DJ MarkCutz, and DJ Avenger, all of whom helped shape the Dallas remix movement and inspired a new generation of DJs.
Drawing inspiration from both my production background and Dallas’ remix culture, I developed a sound that blends tribal, EDM, Latin influences, and high-energy remixing into a style that has become my own. Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to earn more than 30 million streams across streaming platforms and receive support from artists such as Latin Grammy winning Artists 3BALLMTY, Deorro, Chan, and Freebot, but I’ve always believed that success means more than numbers. My long-term goal is to inspire and educate the next generation of producers and DJs by showing them that anyone can learn to create music with enough passion and persistence. Music is a universal language, and if my story can encourage someone to discover their own sound and build a career doing what they love, then I’ve accomplished something far greater than simply making records.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I’ve faced many challenges throughout my career, from balancing school, spending countless hours perfecting my craft, and performing at gigs every weekend, but nothing compared to what my family went through beginning in late 2020. My mother was hospitalized and diagnosed with Stage 3 breast cancer, and as her health declined, she also lost her vision to glaucoma. Watching someone who had always been the strongest person in our family become unable to do everyday tasks was heartbreaking. There were nights when she would tell us she didn’t think she had much time left, and those moments filled our home with fear and uncertainty. Instead of giving up, her strength became my greatest motivation. My mother came to this country from Mexico to build a better life for our family, and I knew I had to give everything I had to honor the sacrifices she and my father made. In 2023, that determination led to my breakthrough on TikTok, where my music began reaching millions of people and appearing across countless For You pages. For the first time, my career provided enough financial stability to help my family focus on caring for my mom during her final year with us. Sadly, she lost her battle with cancer on August 14, 2024. In the midst of that loss, I experienced something I’ll never forget. The Dallas DJ community came together alongside Escapade Clubs to organize a benefit event, uniting many of Texas’ most respected DJs to help raise funds for my mother’s funeral expenses. It reminded me that even during life’s darkest moments, there are people willing to stand beside you. What many people never knew is that I kept my family’s struggle private, sharing it only with my closest friends while continuing to perform and pursue my career. Along the way, I also faced criticism, jealousy, and people who told me I didn’t deserve my success. Looking back, every hardship, every setback, and every doubt became part of the foundation that fuels my passion today. They taught me resilience, gratitude, and the importance of using my platform not only to entertain, but to inspire others to keep pushing forward no matter what life puts in their path.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
As DJ Erandes, my work centers around producing original music, creating innovative remixes, and delivering high-energy performances that blend tribal, EDM, cumbia, and regional Mexican influences into a sound that is uniquely my own. Beyond performing, I dedicate countless hours to songwriting, sound design, mixing, mastering, and developing creative concepts that push Latin electronic music in new directions. Every project I create is driven by a passion for innovation and authenticity. Whether I’m in the studio or behind the decks, my goal is to create music that brings people together, represents my culture, and inspires others to embrace their creativity while continuing to evolve the sound of Latin electronic music.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
The greatest joy in my career comes from seeing people from different cultures connect through my music. Watching audiences dance, celebrate, and create unforgettable memories to a sound that I built from my own experiences is something I never take for granted. Music has the power to bring people together regardless of language or background, and knowing that my work can create those moments gives me a deep sense of purpose and fulfillment. As I continue to grow as an artist, I hope to leave behind a legacy as a recognizable DJ who wasn’t afraid to be different, pushed the boundaries of Latin electronic music, and inspired others to embrace their own creativity.
