Life & Work with Eric Wilterdink of Grandville

Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Wilterdink.

Hi Eric, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am originally from the Grand Rapids area but spent 8 years in the Marines. The last place I was stationed was in Maryland and I started tattooing there when I got out. My wife and I had our daughter and son there and decided to move back to Michigan to be closer to family. After we moved back I opened Lighthouse Tattoo Company in March of 2021. Our original location was in Wyoming but we relocated just over a year ago to our current location in Grandville.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I have been very fortunate to stay busy, when I moved here I had no established clients and building that and a good reputation for the shop has been a long road but I am grateful that it has supported me and my family.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I have made every style of tattoo but I often get requests for American traditional tattoos. I try to continuously expand my skill set and I have been putting a lot of time into studying Japanese tattooing recently but I truly enjoy all styles of art.

What matters most to you? Why?
My family is by far the most important thing to me. My wife and two kids come before everything else but like everyone else I am always trying to find the balance. My son is Autistic and that often bring extra challenges and requires more time and attention. We have found a great community here and feel very supported by our friends and family.

Pricing:

  • I charge $150 per hour for tattoos
  • Our shop has a $80 minimum
  • I take a $50 deposit for scheduling appointments
