Today we’d like to introduce you to Eric Thompson Jr.
Hi Eric, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with me really just searching for direction. Growing up I was always told, go to school, get a good job and live modestly. At a young age, I realized that my journey wouldn’t be that simple. My mother passed away on my thirteenth birthday and I have been searching for my sanity ever since. I’ve been on a continuous search for the things that make me feel purposeful. I unsuccessfully pursued the college route and worked dead-end jobs. At twenty-four I rediscovered my childhood passion, which was writing. I never knew that writing could be so therapeutic and healing for myself. I’m now a two-time self-published author, spoken word poet, entrepreneur and TedX speaker. I never dreamed of being the man I am today, but God had other plans.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road hasn’t been smooth at all. Adverse circumstances are the norm for me. My biggest struggle has been seeing strong models of possibilities. I never seen anyone pursuing the things I’m doing. It often leaves me feeling isolated and un-relatable to my family and peers. Of course lack of a solid financial foundation has also been a major struggle for me. To be honest, though I realize that struggles are a part of my journey. They lead to an opportunity to rise above the negative circumstances.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Self-Published Author, Poet, Public Speaker, Mentor, Sports Coach and Entrepreneur. Sports have played a huge role in developing my character as a man, so I love coaching. My specialty is writing and speaking, I’m a storyteller at heart. I’m most proud of how I’m able to look fear in the face and move forward. I’m also proud of how I’m able to help others persevere from simply sharing my trials and tribulations.
I feel like I’m a master at being me. We’re all unique individuals and I truly embrace being Eric Thompson Jr!
