Today we’d like to introduce you to Dominic Fortuna.
Hi Dominic, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started signing at my Dad’s Restaurant on Torch Lake at 12; it was a way for me to avoid working in the kitchen making pizzas. I had to prove to my Dad I could sell drinks and keep a crowd, o did, and that where it started. I then moved on and eventually joined the Young Americans performing artists group, there I learned the crafts of stage.
Over the years of working with the YA’s, I lived out in California, I had an agent, and was working with big bands like Les Brown and Manny Harmon; I was performed with some of the greats, including Dean Martin, Peggy Lee, and Bobby Vinton, I was only 18.
With all my hard work, I found myself working with Barry Manilow and doing several Reality shows, Dick Clark’s your Big Break, Fame, Jingles with Gene Simmons from Kiss, and You’re The One That I Want, a show about Grease.
That’s where things changed for the better; I was chosen from the TV reality show to enter the Broadway stage and world. I landed the role of Vince Fontaine in the Broadway show Grease at the Brooks in NYC. I performed alongside American Idol Winner Taylor Hicks, to whom played Teen Angel; we Stayed on Broadway for over a year. We closed the show on a national tour, all of this eventually lead me to The Broadway show Catch Me If You Can, to which I worked alongside the famous Mark Shaimen to recreate the character of Fran Abagnale SR.
While all the was going on in NYC, I was still running a Dinner Theater up near Traverse City; it was called the Williamsburg Showcase Dinner Theater-
I wrote and directed over a dozen shows over 7 years there along with doing statewide commercials and club gigs with Drew Abbot, formerly of The Silver Bullit Band.
To which led me to become the featured Actor on the largest ships on the world- did that until Covid-19 forced me home-
I’m now performing 2-hour solo concerts all over North Michigan and raising 3 boys with my lovely wife Virisha; she is from the Island of Mauritius.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It for sure is a struggle- it’s a balanced act constantly, but it’s fun as it gets and satisfying, by the grace of God, go
Thanks – so, what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m a singer, and I’m an Actor; I have a large Range and love to tribute songs and artists who touch the human soul with precious sounds and thoughts
Risk-taking is a topic that people have widely differing views on – we’d love to hear your thoughts.
Moving away from family is always a risk, not being there to see your parents when you are young, your wife as you grow apart, and your kids. Working on the road is a big challenge, but it has to be done to be successful and still reside in Northern Michigan
