Today we’d like to introduce you to DJ Malky
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I embarked on my DJ journey at the age of 17 when I founded my own company. My initial gigs were mainly weddings and private events, which provided me with a solid foundation in the industry. These early experiences not only honed my skills but also fueled my passion for music and entertainment. I realized that I had a knack for reading the crowd and creating unforgettable experiences, which set the stage for my future endeavors.
When I turned 19, I decided it was time for a change. I moved out of my family home and enrolled at Grand Rapids Community College. However, after just half a semester, I came to the conclusion that traditional education wasn’t for me. The rigid structure and theoretical approach didn’t align with my creative aspirations and hands-on nature. I wanted to be out in the world, making a tangible impact through my music. So, I made the bold decision to leave college and focus entirely on my DJ career.
During this time, I started DJing house parties, which turned out to be a pivotal move. These informal gatherings allowed me to experiment with different styles and genres, refining my craft in a more relaxed and dynamic environment. House parties also offered a unique opportunity to connect with people on a personal level, building a loyal following and gaining valuable word-of-mouth referrals.
As my reputation grew, I began to attract the attention of influential figures in the industry. This was a game-changer. I established connections with some very prominent individuals who saw potential in my talent and were willing to support my career. These relationships opened doors I hadn’t even known existed. With their encouragement, I decided to return to my hometown of West Bloomfield to further pursue my DJing career.
Back in West Bloomfield, my career continued to gain momentum before I moved back to Grand Rapids.. One of the highlights during this period was working with Frankie LaPenna, a well-known influencer with over 21 million followers across all social media platforms. I brought him out to a pool party at Grand Valley State, and that video broke 678 million views. Collaborating with someone of his caliber was both an honor and a valuable learning experience. It pushed me to elevate my performance and broaden my horizons.
Around this time, I also embarked on my first college tour, named Malky gone viral. This tour was a defining moment in my career. The tour, which catapulted my name into the spotlight and significantly expanded my audience. Performing at multiple venues and nightclubs worldwide was an exhilarating experience. Each location offered a unique vibe and set of challenges, further enhancing my versatility as a DJ. Additionally, playing at various fraternity events added another layer to my repertoire, allowing me to connect with the college demographic on a deeper level.
Now, as I look back on my journey, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and excitement for the future. The next chapter of my life is taking me to Scottsdale, Arizona, in August. This move represents not just a geographical change but a new beginning in my career. I am eager to explore the opportunities that Scottsdale has to offer and continue my growth as a DJ. The vibrant nightlife and dynamic entertainment scene in Arizona promise to be the perfect backdrop for the next phase of my journey.
Through all these experiences, I have learned that success in the DJ industry requires more than just talent. It demands resilience, adaptability, and the ability to connect with people from all walks of life. My journey has been anything but conventional, but every step has been a valuable lesson. As I prepare for this exciting new chapter, I remain committed to creating unforgettable experiences through my music and sharing my passion with the world.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth ride argued with my parents a lot me djing and doing this a full time career and not having a degree
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
People know me as the kid who is super nice, goes out of my way for everyone, has a ton of energy, and throws crazy events.
Most proud of is that I achieved a lot in life with being only 22.
What sets me apart from everyone is my energy in the room is always positive
Is there any advice you’d like to share with our readers who might just be starting out?
For anyone starting out in DJing or promoting, here’s some advice:
First and foremost, go after your goals with everything you’ve got. Pursue your dreams with relentless passion and don’t let anything or anyone stand in your way. In this industry, there will be naysayers and critics at every turn, but you mustn’t let the hate get to you. People may doubt your abilities or question your choices, but trust me, you can do it. Your success depends on your determination, resilience, and the ability to stay focused on your objectives.
Determination is key. You need to be prepared for long hours, late nights, and the inevitable setbacks. There will be times when things don’t go as planned, but those are the moments that test your commitment. Push through the challenges and stay motivated. Keep reminding yourself why you started this journey in the first place and let that drive you forward.
Equally important is maintaining a small, trustworthy circle. Surround yourself with people who believe in you and support your vision. These individuals will be your anchor during tough times and your cheerleaders during triumphs. It’s better to have a few genuine supporters than a large group of fair-weather friends. Trust is invaluable in this industry, and having a tight-knit circle ensures you have people who truly have your back.
Networking is crucial, but be selective about the company you keep. Build relationships with like-minded individuals who share your passion and work ethic. Learn from those who have walked the path before you and take their advice to heart. However, always stay true to yourself and your unique style. Authenticity resonates with audiences and will set you apart from the crowd.
Remember, success doesn’t happen overnight. It’s a journey filled with highs and lows, and every experience, good or bad, is a learning opportunity. Stay patient, keep honing your craft, and never stop improving. Your hard work will pay off in ways you might not even anticipate right now.
Lastly, always prioritize your well-being. The grind can be intense, but make sure to take care of your physical and mental health. Balance is essential to sustain a long and fulfilling career. Rest when you need to, seek inspiration from various sources, and keep the joy of music and promotion alive in your heart.
In conclusion, go get your bag and pursue your dreams fiercely. Don’t let the negativity of others bring you down. With determination, a supportive circle, and an unwavering commitment to your goals, you can achieve incredible success in the world of DJing and promoting. Keep pushing forward, stay true to yourself, and trust in your abilities. You’ve got this.
