Life & Work with Craig Wolgamott of Fruitport Charter Township

Today we’d like to introduce you to Craig Wolgamott.

Hi Craig, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
I’m an engineer who works Monday through Friday, and I originally wanted to make some extra cash on the side. I started thinking about a small business I could run while also working part-time at Dunham’s.

One day while I was working there, my truck was stolen. It was recovered two days later—and when I got it back, it was completely trashed. I reached out to multiple detailers to have it cleaned, but kept hearing the same responses: “Booked out a month” or “I had to stop because I couldn’t find help.”

That’s when it clicked—there was clearly strong demand, but very limited supply. I started slow by buying basic cleaning supplies from Walmart and practicing on my own vehicles. I spent a lot of time watching YouTube and TikTok, learning the do’s and don’ts, and refining my process.

I eventually formed my LLC, and since then the business has grown rapidly—to the point where I now have to take PTO just to keep up with detailing jobs. I’m consistently booked out, and what started as a side hustle has turned into something much bigger.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Time…..time has been my struggle due to only being available on the weeknds. Ive lost a lot of clients due to being booked out too far.
And with limited slots to book, weather can be an issue as well as I’m 100% mobile.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I own and operate a mobile detailing business focused on making the process as convenient as possible for my clients. By coming directly to you, I eliminate the need for drop-offs, pick-ups, arranging childcare, or finding alternate transportation.

My primary focus is automotive detailing, with plans actively underway to expand into boats and RVs. I am currently certified in ceramic coating installation and am working toward certification in Paint Protection Film (PPF).

My long-term goal is to grow the business by building a skilled team while maintaining the high-quality standards and attention to detail that clients expect.

One thing that sets my business apart is offering monthly specials designed to help clients on tighter budgets make professional detailing more affordable. Through clear communication, I work with each client to align their needs with a service option that fits their budget.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I grew up in a small town called Bitely, about 30 miles west of Big Rapids, and went to school 26 miles away in Hart. Because of the distance, I didn’t have much interaction with kids outside of school, which naturally made me a bit shy.

Growing up, our parents would pay us to clean their vehicles—mostly just vacuuming and wiping down the plastics. Other than that, I never really thought much about detailing cars. I also didn’t grow up having girlfriends I needed a spotless car to impress… so keeping cars clean definitely wasn’t a priority back then 😂
