Today we’d like to introduce you to Cindy Campian.
Hi Cindy, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Like many creative businesses, d14 Studio grew out of a mix of curiosity, design inspiration, and an unexpected opportunity. I’ve always been drawn to thoughtfully designed spaces and the way environment influences creativity. Architecture, texture, and light have always fascinated me — especially how they shape the way a space feels and how people experience it.
When the opportunity came to create a studio, I started thinking about what photographers and creative teams actually need from a space. Many studios are simply functional rooms with backdrops, but I wanted to build something that felt more intentional — a place where the environment itself could become part of the visual story.
That idea led to the creation of d14 Studio in Madison Heights, just outside Detroit. The space was designed with a refined industrial-modern aesthetic, incorporating architectural textures, neutral tones, and beautiful natural light so photographers and creatives could produce a variety of looks within one environment.
Since opening, the studio has become a creative resource for photographers, brands, and small productions throughout Metro Detroit. Detroit has an incredibly strong and growing creative community, and it’s been inspiring to see artists, photographers, and entrepreneurs come through the studio and bring their own vision to the space.
At its core, d14 Studio was created to support creativity — a thoughtfully designed environment where photographers and creative teams can walk in, feel inspired, and focus on producing meaningful visual work.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road — like most creative businesses, it’s been a journey of learning, adjusting, and evolving. Over the last two years, d14 Studio has gone through several stages as I’ve continued refining the vision for what the space should be.
When you first start something, you’re testing ideas and discovering what truly resonates with people. Along the way, I realized that the studio needed to evolve to better reflect the kind of work and creative environment I wanted it to represent. That led to a bit of a reset earlier this year, where I reimagined the space and the brand with a clearer focus on a refined industrial-modern aesthetic and a more editorial, production-ready feel.
Those moments of reassessing and recreating parts of the business have actually been some of the most valuable parts of the journey. They allowed me to step back, refine the direction of the studio, and build something that feels much more intentional.
Entrepreneurship always comes with challenges, but each step has helped shape d14 Studio into a stronger creative space. Seeing photographers, brands, and creatives come in and produce beautiful work here makes the process incredibly rewarding.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
d14 Studio is a photography and content studio located in Madison Heights, just outside of Detroit. The space is designed as a production-ready environment where photographers, creatives, and small brands can come to produce portraits, editorial work, brand content, and small video productions.
What makes the studio unique is its refined industrial-modern design. Rather than a blank studio with just backdrops, the space incorporates architectural textures, neutral tones, and layered environments that allow creatives to achieve multiple looks within a single shoot. The goal was to create a space that feels visually interesting while still remaining versatile enough for a wide range of creative work.
I think what sets d14 Studio apart is the intention behind the design. Every element of the space was carefully considered — from the charcoal textural block wall to the natural light and curated styling elements — so that photographers and creative teams have a space that already feels visually strong before they even start shooting.
What I’m most proud of is seeing how the Detroit-area creative community has embraced the space. Watching photographers, brands, and creatives come in and interpret the studio in their own way is incredibly rewarding. Each shoot brings something new, and it’s exciting to see the space continue to evolve as different artists bring their vision into it.
At the end of the day, my goal with d14 Studio has always been to create a space that supports creativity — a place where people can walk in, feel inspired, and focus on producing meaningful visual work.
If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
I grew up in Dearborn Heights with two brothers and a sister, and we were a very close family. A big influence in my life was my father, who was a master cabinet maker. He took tremendous pride in his work and approached it as both a craft and an art. Watching him create something beautiful with his hands and seeing the care he put into every detail made a lasting impression on me. He was incredibly talented, and I always looked up to him for that.
Growing up, I was naturally drawn to anything creative. I enjoyed finding ways to incorporate creativity into everyday life, even in simple or mundane tasks. Whether it was arranging things, designing something, or thinking about how a space could feel more interesting or intentional, I was always looking for ways to make things more visually appealing.
Looking back, I think that early exposure to craftsmanship and creativity shaped the way I see the world today. It taught me to appreciate thoughtful design, attention to detail, and the idea that even functional things can have beauty and artistry behind them. Those influences definitely carried forward into the work I do today.
