Today we’d like to introduce you to Chelsea Olivo Benefield.
Chelsea, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My love for antiques and vintage pieces began in childhood, when my mom and grandmother would take me antique shopping. Those trips created so many special memories and taught me to appreciate the history and stories behind older items. My husband, Zach, has similar memories of visiting antique and vintage stores with his dad.
Years later, Zach and I became vendors at several antique stores while living in middle Tennessee. When we moved back to Michigan, we became vendors at the store previously known as The Blue Butterfly, which was owned by Rebeka Taylor. We quickly grew to love the store, its vendors, and the community surrounding it. Our four children play an important role in this journey, sharing in the excitement of discovering unique treasures and growing up surrounded by creativity and history.
When the opportunity arose for us to purchase the business, it felt like a natural next chapter. We renamed it The Vintage Society and have worked together as a family to create a warm, welcoming place filled with vintage finds, antiques, home décor, gifts, and clothing.
What began as cherished childhood memories has now grown into a family business that includes all six of us. We feel incredibly grateful to continue building something together, something that honors the past, creates meaningful memories, and brings people together.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like any new business, there have been a few learning curves and unexpected challenges along the way. We have simply taken things one day at a time, learned as we’ve grown, and remained focused on creating a welcoming experience for our vendors and customers. Overall, we are grateful for the support we’ve received and excited about what’s ahead.

The Vintage Society is a curated shoppe offering a fun mix of vintage and antique pieces, home décor, clothing, handmade goods, and gifts. With so many talented vendors under one roof, the shoppe is always changing, and there is truly something for everyone!
I have always been a creative person, and my background in graphic design plays a big role in how I approach the store, from branding and marketing to displays and creating an inviting shopping experience. My husband, Zach, brings experience in sales and management, along with a natural talent for numbers and the business side of things. Our different strengths complement each other and help us work well as a team.
What we are most proud of is the community growing within the store. Every purchase supports our small business and the individual vendor behind the item. We are incredibly thankful for our customers and love getting to know the people who walk through our doors. We hope to be known not only for our unique selection, but also for creating a cheerful, welcoming space where kindness is shared, connections are made, and everyone feels appreciated.
