Today we’d like to introduce you to Carolina.
Hi Carolina, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I am a pianist and composer born in Cali, Colombia. I came to this country to study jazz. I studies at the University of North Texas and then moved to NYC to pursue a career as a professional musician. I developed different artistic collaborations, recorded albums, and performed internationally. I just finished my Doctoral Degree at the University of Miami and I am currently an artist in residency at the Gabriela Lena Frank Creative Academy. As and artist I hope I can touch hearts and question people’s minds through my music.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it has not been easy. But it has been a rewarding life. I think the main struggle is to work in solitude, but I think that is the only way to develop and to concentrate in my work. The hardest of all is to know that the rest of your family is in another country.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I am a pianist and composer who writes music for a wide range of ensembles. My work explores Pan-American fusion in both composition and performance, blending classical, jazz, and Latin American traditions to create music that moves across styles and cultures. Most recently, I was honored to premiere my latest piece for trombone and orchestra, commissioned by the Jackson Symphony.
