Life & Work with Carla Hurd of Bridgeport, MI

Today we’d like to introduce you to Carla Hurd

Hi Carla, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I was just 12 when my parents asked me to demonstrate one of their products at a mall vendor event. I earned a small commission for each “lead” I generated and enjoyed being the “entertainment” for potential buyers. As I got older, I began following up with those leads myself, which sparked a sense of purpose and fulfillment that I couldn’t ignore. I loved helping to close the sale.

A few years later, I started a Tootsie Pop business in middle school. I quickly realized that if I bought the pops and sold them to friends, we could all profit! I didn’t know it then, but I was already practicing network marketing.

I started my family young and worked at a roller rink that was about to be sold. My other option was to work at my mother’s bar, which I wanted to avoid as a new mom, but it did help me develop my people skills. Later that year, I attended a candle party and became fascinated by direct sales. That day marked the beginning of a 23-year journey as Carla the Candle Lady, where the flexible hours helped me raise my family.

As that company was closing and my health became a concern, I found my current opportunity. I joined the health and wellness industry, eager to be part of its growth while learning to take better care of myself and my family. Now, I’m heading into my eighth year as a network marketer with Isagenix.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
The road in network marketing is more like a roller coaster, it’s a run ride but sometimes you really have to hang on and scream! One struggle is establishing and maintaining a strong, motivated team. It often requires continuous effort to recruit new members and keep existing ones engaged. There are great rewards when someone has a transformation of their health or wealth though!

Another struggle is overcoming the stigma of this industry. Network marketing can carry a negative reputation due to misconceptions and past unethical practices. Marketers often need to work hard to educate others about the legitimacy of their business model and overcome skepticism from friends, family, and potential recruits

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
A couple years ago I created CREATEaLIVITY~Create the Life You Crave. We hold workshop and weekends to help people create and take control of their habits to have a healthy lifestyle. In doing this I have collaborated with some of the best professionals who are experts in their field to help people with their wellness wheel. WE have detox and de-stress events, Skin Care Saturdays, Feet and Face Fridays, etc. All in an effort to education and entertain!

Have you learned any interesting or important lessons due to the Covid-19 Crisis?
YES-that people NEED to be together. The community that is being built in these IN PERSON events is a beautiful thing to watch. During the pandemic we tried to stay connected to everyone thru zoom parties, but it was very difficult
