Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Schwartz.
Brittany, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Hi there!
My story’s pretty wild; I started off doing things, making edibles as a chef with Medimenu’s cooking corner. After a shift in direction went to my bakery and went through a divorce, which hurdled me into my healing journey.
From there. That’s kinda where the story fully came together for me. I had done yoga in college and since I loved it so much, I actually bought a book for teaching it. Oddly enough during my divorce, I bought an at your own pace course. That the course reading was this very book I’d had for 10 years! (That I’m starting after my baby boy arrives. (Much longer story!)) I started to embark more of my spiritual life and journey and did the Donna Lakes ascension program, as well as reiki. During this time I was also starting to offer tarot readings.
My divorce finalized on my birthday, and I remember just being overjoyed. Because I felt like spirit was on my side and watching over me.
With that, I took a huge leap but was then blasted to take a seat first. I broke my ankle and had to handle rest, surgery, and recovery. I got back on my feet literally and began my journey.
I finished Donna’s program and gave myself the chance to wait for the yoga teacher training until I was ready. So, I started doing vendor events as a vendor. Going all over the state of Michigan, I did tarot and reiki and passed along light and love to so many. Then, I began to start a journey at a tattoo shop in Berkley during Covid to bring a spin on things with healing in the tattoo shop. So, I did reiki and tarot out of the shop with my business partner and friend Jazmine who does massage therapy. We moved into a position where we no longer felt like the environment was really for us. So, we decided to pursue our journeys a little slower and steady. I began a program with IIN which is over in March. Between all of that the things I have put my time into varied and we’re beyond more than just one hat. As an ever-changing hat lady. I went from doing photo shoots, doing events, and promoting to running and creating my very own. Bringing in bands and creating a community. Working with artists all over the Detroit area. I did vendor curation for many event promoters and began to also help friends vendors and creators to make their own LLCs and how to start their own businesses. I continued my learning going into deep dives and more certification programs for herbal medicine making and more. I have always had a witchy way about me. My family started to slip in health and so my focus and time started to really come back into that. I then started to realize I had to make sure I was doing everything I could. So, I kept doing events like the fall awakening in 2022 and other events that came into play in tangent and pushing promotions and projects and even took on a job in a kitchen again to see what all it would help me pay for. It helped make the metal masquerade happen this year. We had fire, art and music, masks, and just a beautiful night! Moving through I started mentoring programs and curating them to the individual and started to find my direction again myself. As school was starting to come full circle. I realized I wanted to focus on the mind, body, and spirit. So that’s been my focus. But there’s still a lot of changes before 2024!
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No! The best advice I give to all my new coming business owners is to pivot! You cannot expect to have all the answers. Things change. Trends change, and Covid did a lot for small businesses. Be patient and start small and fade into it. Be loving and patient with yourself. There’s a lot of struggle, but I have had a consistent client base and an 86% return rate. It doesn’t happen overnight. In any endeavor I’ve done.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I do what I do. I won’t put a title on that. I’m most known for doing something no one is expecting. So, I keep things moving. I think what I’m most known for is tarot or healings. That or being a chef. But really, it’s all pieces of the puzzle I’m making. The picture is still always coming together each day. I think herbalist traits set me apart. I’m always using my intuition and skills from being a chef witch and herbalist to help people with herbal supplement needs now or spiritual guidance.
What makes you happy?
People. People make me happy. Being able to be around community makes me happy. Being me. Makes me happy. Authentic life choices make me happy.
