Life & Work with Bre Teamer of Michigan

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bre Teamer.

Hi Bre, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has always centered around storytelling, media, and understanding how people connect. I’ve always been drawn to communication, how stories shape perception, influence culture, and create real opportunities.

A major turning point for me was when I switched my major to Public Relations and started my media business, Social Lyfe. I saw how many brands and businesses needed help showing up online in a way that felt intentional and impactful, and what started as helping with social media and brand presence quickly grew into something much bigger.

I actually stumbled into news unexpectedly. I attended a PR event hosted by Fox 2 Detroit and created a highlight reel for social media afterward. Management at Fox 2 saw it, brought me in for an interview, and that opportunity led me to helping build the station’s streaming show. From there, everything really took off.

That experience helped me grow even deeper into content strategy, brand development, digital storytelling, and audience engagement. I’ve worked in spaces where journalism, branding, and media all overlap, and that’s where I realized I thrive most, at the intersection of media, business, and culture.

A big part of my growth has been learning that storytelling isn’t just creative, it’s strategic. Whether I’m helping a brand refine its voice, producing content that connects with people, or building platforms that create influence, the goal is always the same, helping people and businesses communicate in a way that feels authentic and moves things forward.

Today, that’s still the foundation of everything I do, using media and strategy to help shape strong, meaningful brands and conversations.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road. A lot of my journey has been built through figuring things out in real time, taking risks, and learning through experience rather than having a perfectly mapped-out plan.

Starting my business while still in college came with its own challenges because I was balancing school, building credibility, and trying to position myself in professional spaces where I was often one of the youngest people in the room. There were definitely moments where I had to prove that I belonged and that I wasn’t just passionate, but actually capable.

Transitioning into news and media brought a different kind of challenge because it was a new space with high expectations and fast-paced environments. I had to learn quickly, adapt quickly, and trust myself even when I felt like I was stepping into rooms I hadn’t fully prepared for yet.

I’ve also had moments where I had to reevaluate what success looked like for me. Sometimes the challenge wasn’t external, it was internal, learning not to tie my value to one opportunity, one role, or one outcome. That mindset shift was huge for me.

Looking back, I think the struggles were necessary because they taught me resilience, confidence, and how to trust my own vision. A lot of growth came from uncomfortable seasons, and those moments shaped me just as much as the wins did.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I specialize in content strategy, brand development, audience engagement, and digital storytelling. I’m known for being able to look at a brand, business, or platform and quickly identify what’s missing, whether that’s clarity, consistency, stronger messaging, or a deeper connection with the right audience.

What I’m most proud of is creating opportunities for myself instead of waiting for them. Starting my business while still in college, building my own lane in media, and stepping into news through initiative taught me a lot about trusting my instincts and betting on myself. Some of the biggest opportunities in my career came from me being willing to move first, take risks, and create the moment instead of waiting for one.

What sets me apart is that I understand both the strategy and the human side of communication. I know how to create content that connects emotionally, but I also understand the business behind why it matters. I can look at a brand or platform and understand both how it should feel and how it should perform. That balance allows me to bring a perspective that feels both creative and intentional, and that’s where I do my best work.

If we knew you growing up, how would we have described you?
Growing up, I was very observant and really expressive. I paid attention to people, energy, and the way things worked around me, but I was also very much my own person. I wore whatever I thought looked cool, I was direct, and I always had a strong sense of what I liked and how I wanted to show up. My brothers would probably say I was bossy, but I’d call it knowing exactly what I wanted.

I was naturally curious and pretty smart, so school came easily to me in a lot of ways. I never really had to try too hard academically because I understood things quickly and was always thinking a few steps ahead.

I was also really into reading, creating, and fashion design. I loved anything that allowed me to express myself and build something from an idea. I’ve always been drawn to creativity and entrepreneurship, even as a kid. I actually tried to run my own garage sale once because I liked the idea of creating something and making it my own.

At the same time, we moved around a lot, and that shaped me in a big way. It made it harder to build lasting friendships because right when I would start getting comfortable, I’d be changing schools or adjusting to a new environment.

Because of that, I became someone who could connect with a lot of different kinds of people, but I also learned how to rely on myself. Moving around taught me how to read people quickly, adapt to new environments, and find my footing no matter where I was. I think that balance of being observant, adaptable, and independent still shows up in who I am today, both personally and professionally.
