Life & Work with Brandi Higginbotham

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandi Higginbotham.

Brandi, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Unlike many other floral designers, I stumbled upon the business without any prior experience. My journey started in high school as a bagger at a local grocery store. It was a perfect after-school job that paid enough for gas for me to attend football games on Friday nights and hang out with friends. After a short time, I was offered a floral assistant position at the same store. Within a year and a half, I began managing the floral department while attending college. I began to be fully immersed in flowers, and my passions began to burn. I was entirely in awe of how flowers make people feel and what big roles flowers play in many life milestones. We often see them used in weddings, funerals, ‘pick me ups’, school dances, graduations, thanks yous, and so much more. There is something so special about how universal flowers are among different people, cultures, and events. Eventually, my floral department management career was near the end, and I began taking on small weddings and events while planning my next career move. In June of 2017, I officially launched Lee Floral Design, a full-service floral design business. The small weddings and events that I had taken on opened flood gates that couldn’t be closed. I left my retail position of 11 years, stopped attending college, and put everything into LFD. Since then, I have established a brand built on authentic relationships and transparency complied with a loose and organic design style chocked full of texture. Lee Floral Design and its team provide designs for weddings and events and offer floral subscription services, holiday designs, and workshops.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Every day is a learning experience. The business is constantly evolving and our processes are constantly changing. We are always wanting to ensure that we stay relevant with new designs and our social media presence. COVID was a huge struggle for me and my business. We postponed 42 weddings from 2020 to 2021 and 2022. We started offering services that we never offer previously and worked harder than ever to remain successful. Every day, I am thankful that we made it when so many other small businesses didn’t.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
We are a full-service floral design business. We specialize in natural and organic floral designs that are full of funky and different blooms. There are a few things that our clients repeatedly say: We are transparent, we are passionate, and we genuinely care. We will always be honest with all of our clients and will never sell them a bunch of things they don’t need. Instead, we are clear, concise and gain the trust of every one of our clients through excellent communication. Relationships with our couples far outlast their wedding day, which is something that we pride ourselves on.

What was your favorite childhood memory?
My business is named after my late father and my middle name, Lee. My favorite childhood memory is working alongside him on his 1968 Dodge SuperBee. We were extremely close, and I often attribute much of my business and its success to my dad.
