Today we’d like to introduce you to Beth Griffith Manley.
Hi Beth , can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
For Beth, music was woven into the fabric of her life from the very beginning.
Growing up in Detroit, she was surrounded by music at home through her father, a member of the legendary Motown Funk Brothers—the musicians responsible for many of the iconic hits that shaped generations. Inspired by that rich musical legacy, Beth began singing around the house before taking her talent to school stages, where she performed in talent shows and discovered her love for entertaining audiences.
What started as childhood performances evolved into a professional career that would take her around the world. Beth’s first national and international touring opportunity came as a background vocalist for the incomparable 8-time Grammy winner Anita Baker. She later toured and performed with renowned artists including KEM, Najee, The O’Jays, and Ginuwine.
As her career continued to grow, Beth shared stages with some of music’s most celebrated artists, opening for legends such as Patti LaBelle, Gladys Knight, Peabo Bryson, Keith Washington, Chanté Moore, Roy Ayers, Lonnie Liston Smith, as well as Ginuwine and the acclaimed R&B group Kut Klose.
Today, Beth stands as an accomplished independent R&B artist, SAG-AFTRA performer, actress, voice talent, children’s book author, and eight-time Grammy-considered recording artist. While her career has taken her from local school stages to international audiences, her mission remains the same: to create music that uplifts, inspires, and connects people through the power of authentic storytelling and soulful performance.
From the Motown legacy she inherited to the path she continues to forge on her own, Beth’s journey is a testament to perseverance, passion, and the enduring power of music.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
The most challenging aspect of being an independent artist is acquiring funding and backing for promotion and touring.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m most proud of my push to keep going.
Being an independent artist can be daunting because you’re entering areas where you’ve never had to navigate before.
Because I have such an exceptional team, we all work together to plan our next moves.
With our team work it resulted in my sophomore album debuting at #1 on Amazon Hot New Releases and #6 on ITunes.
That’s a huge accomplishment for an indie artist without a huge record label budget.
What makes you happy?
As I mature, peace, love and organization makes me happy.
I used to say music was what makes me happy, but I’ve come to realize that when those other 3 things are in place, it creates a healthy environment for me to make music.
