Today we’d like to introduce you to Asia Muhammad.
Asia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I relocated back to Michigan in 2021 from New Mexico. I worked for Verizon Wireless for 18 years and decided it was time to come back home because all of my family was here, and my husband and I was missing out on so many important moments in life. I obtained my education as a Permanent make-up artist in New Mexico so when I decided to relocate, I was not sure if I still could pursue my passion because I did not know where to start. I prayed and asked God to show me if this is something I was going to do, that he would position me and direct my path.
In that same year, I was encouraged to keep going. I began to practice and study my craft. I was so nervous afraid of failure, but I never gave up. After a year of practice and continuing my education in becoming a paramedical, where I offer service for cancer survivors for 3D realism areola tattoo and scar camouflage, I was ready to be a full-time entrepreneur. However, I did not know how that was going to happen. Just like everyone in life, I had financial responsibilities, a family, a son in college, etc. So, I continued to pray and ask God to open the doors for me that he wants me to walk through.
The wait! It felt like years! I thought maybe this was not what I was supposed to do, but I stayed with it. I could not take clients because I did not have the space, and I did not want to be in a salon environment because of my previous experiences, having been raised up and around the beauty industry and my stepfather being a salon owner. When you have something that you want, it takes consistency, a lot of support, and a motivated mindset.
After waiting about 6 more months, I was offered a severance from Verizon, allowing me to go full-time as a professional permanent makeup artist/ paramedical. I opened A Beaute’ Ink Boutique August 27th, 2023, and I have been truly blessed to have the support and love of my friends, family, and church family. This does not mean the journey gets easy, but it is worth it. I still have prayers, lol, and the ebbs and flows of business. I am grateful that I can have women and men from all walks of life come to my establishment, and I can be a blessing to them by offering them a service that helps them restore the beauty that was stolen by an illness or tragedy.
It is not just my business; it is my ministry. I thank God that my dream aligned with his for my life. This is just the beginning. Starting this month, I am now offering to accept all medical insurances for my services, and I will always continue to educate myself and offer the best environment that is professional and Zen for my clients. I believe that customer service is the foundation to any business success. With my experience with Verizon for 18 years and over 2o years in the beauty industry, I am the perfect pick. I look forward to my story not only being a blessing for me but most importantly being a blessing for others not to give up no matter what. It is truly worth the wait.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Absolutely NOT! Lol but it never is supposed to be. How can a real story be without a true testimony? I believe that my journey is not about me, it is for the next entrepreneur that will need some help on their journey.
The beauty industry has its slow Seasons on top that marketing is so major. I had to learn everything and teach myself on how to keep up with trends and what and when to post. This is something that I am still learning today.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
