Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna-Marie Seitter
Anna-Marie, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Growing up my dad worked as a photographer briefly and always kept it as a hobby, when I was a kid I was frequently the one to go stand in to check lighting and such. I even remember getting photo sessions done as a child too. Honestly photography has always been around me in some way or another so stepping into modeling felt natural to me.
I’ve always had a passion for education too. Growing up I always enjoyed a challenge and thrived in education. I love learning along with sharing knowledge. My love for learning honestly is what shaped my degree of Integrative studies with a focus in small business management and makerism. My degree is my passion project of what certifications and classes I felt best prepared me as maker as a whole. A maker by definition is just someone who creates or invents things.
I started college at Michigan Tech wanting to be a mechanical engineer, but soon learned my passion was in the fusion of art and engineering. So after some time and some college changes I found my job too that influenced my choices to follow a small business management path too. As I realized that with my maker skills it would be useful to acquire small business management skills to better help myself as a maker and to help other makers market their products too.
I stepped into modeling in my senior semester of college and followed it from there! After finding my first opportunity I kept finding different opportunities and ways to put myself out there. Pretty soon I found myself in Chicago that summer, modeling for Clickcon a national photography conference. The best part is that you’re helping give education opportunities to photographers by modeling for them to practice or get needed portfolio work. Honestly that was such a wonderful and inspiring experience for myself and I enjoyed it immensely.
I’m so thankful for the opportunities that everyone and life have provided me.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It’s been both! I’ve been very lucky in finding opportunities and having good working relationships with people.
I think my biggest challenge has been medical actually. I am a chronic pain sufferer since about 16, I have TMJ (A muscle disorder that affects the jaw) that got worse with the stress of college, I was struggling with chronic neck pain too just from the stress of school and life at the time.
Post grad I took time to heal and find what was going wrong, turns out I have a benign skull tumor that they found at the base of my skull. Lightening up my load with life and stress has helped my pain tenfold. Learning about the tumor has helped me too as it taught me why my neck has had pain from the unbalance. I honestly seek chiropractic treatment and physical therapy when it gets bad. Overall I’ve been much lower pain now than the past and I am so happy for that!
The pain can effect my modeling as I can get very sore or tired but as I’ve gotten older I’ve prioritized taking care of myself and making sure I do the preventative measures to avoid feeling that way.
I’m very lucky that I have relief from my pain at times and that I’m on a non invasive method to treatment.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am so thankful for my job! It’s my favorite job I’ve ever worked.
I work at a Pastie shop, a pastie is a Michigan regional cuisine that is a meat hand pie with potatoes and rutabaga. I specialize in the front of house of the restaurant, I’m frequently the one running the register and serving customers. I got my small business management certification to help the shop, during my studies we even got to do reports on making the shop more efficient. In the end my boss took up a few of the suggestions including getting a new register that I programmed and prepared to use personally.
What I can say sets me apart is I try to give everyone that walks in the door a good experience. I try to find somehow to make them laugh, smile or just make their day a little better. Everyone deserves a place that does that and if I can provide that I’m happy to. I am the only one at my job with the small business management certification which does help at times, having my degree and working the job I do works out as I find ways to utilize my degree.
My boss lets us put our art in the shop so I sell my incense, candles and massage bars at my work. So I get to use my makerism skills and provide inventory for the shop.
We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success is self defined. I feel anyone gets to set their own goals and when they feel they succeeded. It shouldn’t be for anyone else in the end. Success is when you feel happy with your own accomplishments. It could be as small as stepping out the front door on a rough morning but that’s successful all in its own right. All success is self made and self measured in the end.
