Life & Work with Amy Olds of SE Detroit

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Olds

Hi Amy, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Funny story about me is what I thought I wanted to become looks very different than where I am today. I think many can relate.
Living in Michigan my entire life and completing my PR/Comm degree at Wayne State, the Motor City is my home. I left the workforce to be home with my boys over a decade ago and began a lifestyle blog with an emphasis in motherhood. Becoming a mother was a struggle but soon learned about the incredible community of mothers that could completely relate. In 2016, I started my blog, The Gilded Wife because on the outside, life appeared covered in gold but really, we were all on similar journeys in need of community.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Like every journey, there are challenges but I never believed in failure. I knew I was being redirected on multiple occasions. Friendships were made and some loss.
Careers pivoted, while doors would close. It’s all about your perception and how you manage the cards you’ve been dealt.
I am a firm believer in Jesus Christ and his plan for our future. I see each trial as a means to strengthen my faith.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I am first a wife and mom to our boys. My ministry is within my four walls.

Currently, I can be found online as “The Gilded Wife” discussing my faith, family and most recently, a garden that is rapidly growing. Gardening has become a flourishing passion of mine.
Being home has allowed me to research better, healthier food options for my family and community.
It’s a hobby that everyone can get onboard with because we all strive for good health.
Something that I am proud of but could also set me apart is my life goal is: raising my children to know the Lord and teaching them the importance of a healthy mind, body and spirit.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
Advice I would have for finding a mentor is someone that doesn’t base their beliefs on what others say or think of them. They seek truth and believe what they preach because if they don’t believe in themself, who will?
Take a look at your follow list. Who do you admire and look forward to following? Who inspires you?
Start there.

Be your authentic self. It sounds cliche but your community will support and appreciate you when you show up as yourself. They’re following and investing in you!
