Today we’d like to introduce you to Amir Butler aka Sofia Moussier.
Sofia, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My serial entrepreneurial journey began when I was an incoming freshman at Michigan State University. I created my very first business, Soreem which was a luxury Streetwear brand at first marketed towards primary Black people and for Black empowerment which later turned into a brand that showcased carefreeness and expression. That era introduced me to runway as well as editorial modeling on campus and off while staying true to my brand. I also would host and curate my own entertainment fashion shows for my brand which became a staple for me. From there I sold hair (Tavern Hair &Co), trained models (Stad Runway & La Model), put out my first poetry book (sold out both releases), debuted one of my collections at NYFW, and so much more. Now that I am not currently in college, I have started my own spiritual botanica as well as managed an R&B artist while recently getting signed to a NY agency. So, I’ve been moving throughout the fashion, beauty, and entertainment industry since 2015 and have tried to document it ever since to inspire others. Even before 2015, most don’t know that I was Melissaa Clues, a YouTube pop singer who had thousands of fans on Facebook and YouTube, planning meet and greets at the age of 13/14years old, doing fan calls and everything. On top of the fact having popular fan fiction stories that got thousands of views when Wattpad and Facebook were really popular years ago. I have always had that star power and I’m in the chapter in my life where I am truly starting to realize this and believe it. This chapter of my life is all about what I want and progressing my own career instead of listening to those who aren’t me and helping others progress in their career and not me. That is how Sofia Moussier was birthed to pay homage to the star within me that I have always put on the back burner, the woman of both confidence and elegance who turns every eye and goes completely after what she wants. A woman who lives and not just survives. I have done a plethora of things within my career and now it’s time to take it to the next level…
I’m sure you wouldn’t say it’s been obstacle-free, but so far would you say the journey has been a fairly smooth road?
I think the biggest thing throughout my whole journey has been beating my mindset when it comes to certain things. I love to have control over most things and have realized when it comes to the Universe I truly don’t and having to trust that was hard and still is. I think what most can agree with is feeling out of control can bring upon anxiety for sure but trusting in the universe is your best bet. Of course, there have been many moments that I have been told no or didn’t have the funds but had to simply walk out on faith and believe that the opportunity was meant for me. I tell this story all the time but I didn’t have the money for NYFW, but I had to realize the hustler mindset I have and my faith in the universe for making it happen had landed me there. Something else I realized was my fear of success which sounds crazy because I’ve accomplished so much in my 24 years of life but yes. I can be so shocked while also doubting myself to the point of procrastination and psych myself out of an opportunity destined for me or I would get discouraged and quick something when I would receive too much attention for it. The pressure would get to me at times. Now I know who I am or at realizing it now that I can do anything I put my mind to, consistency is the key to life and detachment too.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I have been intertwined in film, beauty, management/administration, apparel design, event coordinating, creative direction, spiritual healer, and so much more. I don’t even know what to label myself anymore because I’ve done it all. (That’s what happens when you’re a Gemini Sun) I specialize in being. I’m most known for my modeling, Soreem (clothing brand), my boldness, and confidence/look. I’m most proud of my persistence in life and my overall boldness and willingness to break barriers in any field that I’m in. I’m a genius. The thing that I believe sets me apart from most is my willingness to challenge life itself, my mind, and how I overall come up with my creations, and I don’t take no for an answer no matter what.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is that I’m living my life to its truest potential, my support system, and if I’m happy at the end of the day. If I’m not happy, the world don’t move.
