Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Eddy.
Hi Amber, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I’ve had a camera in my hands for as long as I can remember. It all started with action shots at my dirt bike events and capturing landscapes, and from there, my passion for photography grew. In high school, I took photography classes all four years.
After high school, I began taking on family sessions and portraits. My first wedding came in 2016 when I photographed a friend’s sister’s big day. Then in 2020, I captured two intimate backyard weddings for my coworkers. From 2016 to 2023, I documented a total of seven weddings. But in 2024, my photography truly took off—I shot 12 weddings, including elopements, solo weddings, second shooting, and associate work.
With every session and wedding, my passion continues to grow, and I feel like this is just the beginning of an incredible journey.
How did I get to where I am today? By never putting my camera down. I constantly pushed myself to learn more, step outside my comfort zone, and grow as a photographer. One of the biggest things that helped me break out of my shell was attending styled shoots—they gave me the confidence to experiment, network, and refine my craft.
I’m completely self-taught, constantly learning through trial and error. Creating a Facebook business page, Instagram, and a website helped me put my work out there and connect with clients. Running model calls allowed me to meet new people, build my portfolio, and keep shooting consistently. I also spent a lot of time experimenting with different editing techniques to develop my own style.
I owe a huge thank you to my family and friends for always believing in me and reminding me that I’m on the right path. In 2024, I was fortunate to meet Monique, a local wedding photographer who took me under her wing. She saw my potential and helped me grow even more in this industry.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It hasn’t been a smooth road—but the dirt biker in me never liked smooth roads anyway lol.
Like any artist turning their passion into a business, I’ve faced my share of struggles—pushing past self-doubt, overcoming the fear of failure, and navigating the business side of photography (dyslexia definitely kept things interesting). But stepping outside my comfort zone has been the key to growth.
Every challenge has shaped me into a stronger photographer and business owner, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
What do you do?
I’m a photographer who captures life’s biggest milestones and the in-between moments that mean just as much. My passion is freezing time—creating tangible memories that make people smile, reminisce, and feel a sense of belonging.
I believe every story deserves to be told, no matter how big or small. Through my lens, I celebrate each couple, family, and individual exactly as they are, embracing their unique energy and the beauty around them. More than just taking photos, I create a comfortable space where you can be yourself, knowing these moments will be cherished for a lifetime.
Photography is more than art to me—it’s preserving the fleeting, the meaningful, and the irreplaceable. Because life moves fast, but photos let us hold onto the moments that truly matter.
what do you specialize in?
My portfolio is far from typical—I specialize in capturing a wide range of moments and stories. From family sessions and senior portraits to creative/editorial shoots, reunions, and weddings, and elopements. I’ve had the privilege of documenting it all. I also work on branding, and even product photography. Each session is unique, and I love how diverse my work is—it allows me to tell different kinds of stories, from intimate and personal to bold and artistic.
what are you known for?
I’d say I’m known for being both a photographer and a dirt bike racer. It’s always a bit surprising when strangers recognize me, whether from the hill climbs at Muskegon Motorcycle Club or from capturing weddings and family photos. It’s rewarding to know that people connect with my work and feel like they know me through the moments I’ve captured.
I’m also passionate about building a supportive community within the photography industry. I’ve hosted a photography coffee meetup and am eager to help grow connections among local photographers. I truly believe that supporting others in the industry doesn’t take away from your own success—it only strengthens the community.
Ultimately, I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve had and for the people who’ve trusted me to document their stories.
What are you most proud of?
I’m most proud of myself. If someone had told me five years ago that I’d be a wedding and portrait photographer, I would have laughed and probably run the other way. But I’ve grown so much, stepped out of my comfort zone, and embraced this journey. I’m proud of who I’ve become, and I truly have photography to thank for that.
What sets you apart from others?
What sets me apart is simple—I pick up my camera because I truly love what I do. It’s never been about the money or recognition, but about the people, the moments, and the art of storytelling. I care deeply about my clients and the memories I create for them.
Another thing that makes me different is that I don’t box myself into just one niche or style. While consistency is important, I also believe in pushing creative boundaries—why not color outside the lines? Every story is unique, and I love the freedom to capture it in a way that feels true to each client.
We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Me? A risk-taker? Never! Just kidding. I believe risks are necessary for growth and success. Some of the biggest ones I’ve taken include attending a styled shoot alone, investing in new gear, leaving a secure job to explore product photography, and taking on my first solo wedding.
That wedding was a huge leap—I was nervous, knowing the weight of capturing such an important day. But in the end, it was incredibly rewarding to realize I could do it, and do it well. Every risk has pushed me to grow, and I’m grateful for each one.
To me, risk is about growth and trust. I believe risks are necessary for growth. If you wait for the perfect moment, you’ll be waiting forever. Life isn’t about being perfect—it’s about being so ridiculously passionate that people think you’re a little crazy. Taking risks means following that passion, even when it doesn’t make sense to everyone else.
Everything in life comes with risk, so why not take a chance on something that excites you? I also believe that if an opportunity presents itself, it means you’re ready for it—even if it feels scary. Growth happens when you step outside your comfort zone, and that’s where the best moments in life begin.
