Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Siera Duiser of Detroit

We recently had the chance to connect with Siera Duiser and have shared our conversation below.

Siera, so good to connect and we’re excited to share your story and insights with our audience. There’s a ton to learn from your story, but let’s start with a warm up before we get into the heart of the interview. What is a normal day like for you right now?
Every day is different for me and I love that about my job. Some days I’m planning a destination wedding while others are a multi generational family’s cruise together. I have the opportunity to work with a variety of clientele on different destinations all over the world.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Siera Duiser and I am a travel advisor. I have been a travel advisor since 2012 and planned thousands of vacations all over the world. I have been to most of the United States, visited over 20 countries and sailed on over 20 cruises so I have the opportunity to share my experiences with my clients to make their travels even better.

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom has taught me the most about work. My mom has always loved her job and chooses to spend a lot of time working, even when she doesn’t have to. It showed me that I wanted a career that I love and enjoy spending time doing.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
COVID was one of the most challenging times in my life, especially working in the travel industry. We literally saw the world close down almost overnight and there was quite a bit of time that it felt unsure when travel would come back and how different it would look when it did.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What’s a cultural value you protect at all costs?
I protect time and making memories with my children by traveling together. I believe in traveling with them as often as I can. There’s so much that they have learned and experienced from traveling.

Before we go, we’d love to hear your thoughts on some longer-run, legacy type questions. Are you doing what you were born to do—or what you were told to do?
I am thankful that I found and am able to do what I was born to do. I was told to go to college so I graduated with a degree that has nothing to do with the career that I chose.
