We’re looking forward to introducing you to Sherese Patton . Check out our conversation below.
Good morning Sherese , we’re so happy to have you here with us and we’d love to explore your story and how you think about life and legacy and so much more. So let’s start with a question we often ask: What do you think is misunderstood about your business?
One of the biggest misunderstandings about PR is that it’s just about getting media placements or posting on social media. While those are important pieces, true public relations is much more strategic and relationship-driven. At my agency, I focus on building long-term brand visibility, credibility, and trust — things that don’t always happen overnight.
Another misconception is that PR delivers instant results, like flipping a switch. In reality, it’s about consistency, storytelling, and nurturing connections with the right audiences over time. My role is to not only secure exposure but also help clients shape their narrative, manage their reputation, and position themselves for growth.
Ultimately, PR is not a “quick fix” — it’s a partnership and an investment in how your brand shows up in the world. When clients understand that, the work becomes even more impactful.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Sherese Patton and I am the founder of The Patton Agency, a PR and communications firm dedicated to helping brands tell their stories in ways that connect, inspire, and leave a lasting impact. With over six years of experience in public relations and digital marketing, I’ve had the privilege of working with a range of clients — from restaurants and non-profits to fashion and beauty brands.
What makes my agency unique is the personal approach I take with every client. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all PR. Instead, I focus on crafting tailored strategies that highlight what makes each brand special and position them to stand out in competitive industries. For me, it’s not just about securing media coverage — it’s about building authentic narratives, creating visibility, and helping clients grow their influence and community.
My own journey into PR started with a deep love for storytelling and a desire to amplify voices that don’t always get the spotlight. Over the years, I’ve seen how the right story, told in the right way, can change the trajectory of a business or a career. Right now, I’m especially excited about expanding my agency’s VIP consulting services to support business owners who may not be ready for a full PR retainer but still want guidance on how to elevate their brand presence.
At the end of the day, what drives me is the ability to use PR as a tool to create opportunities, shift perceptions, and help my clients shine in their own lane.
Great, so let’s dive into your journey a bit more. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
The part of me that I’ve learned to release is the need to do everything on my own. When I first started my PR agency, I felt like I had to wear every hat and constantly prove myself — even if it meant taking on more than I should. That mindset served a purpose in the beginning because it helped me build resilience, resourcefulness, and a strong foundation for my business. But over time, I realized that holding on to that way of operating was actually limiting my growth.
Now, I’m embracing collaboration, delegation, and trusting others to bring their strengths to the table. Letting go of the “I can do it all” mentality has opened up more space for me to focus on strategy, creativity, and the bigger vision for my agency. It’s been a necessary shift from survival mode to sustainable growth — and it’s teaching me that asking for help and building a strong team is not a weakness, but a strength.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
Yes, there was a time I almost gave up. In the early stages of building my agency, I took on a lot of pro bono work just to build my portfolio and prove my skills. While it gave me experience, there came a point when I was pouring so much of myself into projects without seeing the financial return. I remember feeling drained, questioning whether I had made the right choice, and wondering if maybe it would be easier to walk away and go back to something more stable.
What kept me from giving up was my “why.” I thought about the clients who trusted me with their stories, the small wins that showed I was making an impact, and the fact that my passion for PR never really went away — even in those difficult moments. I also had to shift my mindset from just saying “yes” to every opportunity to being more intentional about the work I took on. That pivot allowed me to focus on clients and projects that aligned with my vision, and it reminded me that this path is a marathon, not a sprint.
Looking back, that season taught me resilience, boundaries, and the importance of valuing my own expertise. And it showed me that sometimes the moments when you feel closest to giving up are the ones that prepare you for your biggest growth.
So a lot of these questions go deep, but if you are open to it, we’ve got a few more questions that we’d love to get your take on. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
think my closest friends would say that what really matters to me is people — making sure they feel seen, supported, and celebrated. Whether it’s my clients, my family, or my friends, I care deeply about helping others shine and reminding them of their value. They’d probably also say that integrity matters to me — I don’t just want to do good work, I want to do it with honesty, creativity, and heart.
Okay, so before we go, let’s tackle one more area. When do you feel most at peace?
Hhhmmm, Well, I feel most at peace when I’m surrounded by music. Music has always been a grounding force for me, and it’s where I find inspiration, comfort, and clarity. Whether it’s listening to some of my favorite Detroit artists or just having soulful music playing in the background (like Sade or Brian McKnight, who are my favorite artists) while I work, it allows me to slow down, breathe, and reconnect with myself.
