Life, Values & Legacy: Our Chat with Melanie Pierce of Detroit-based

We recently had the chance to connect with Melanie Pierce and have shared our conversation below.

Melanie, we’re thrilled to have you with us today. Before we jump into your intro and the heart of the interview, let’s start with a bit of an ice breaker: What are you most proud of building — that nobody sees?
My family.

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Melanie Pierce. I’m a Detroit-based singer/songwriter in the indie/pop/songwriter space. I write songs mostly about the human experience, love, loss, and pushing boundaries. I really want my music to create space for people to feel and explore themsevels and their own personal stories. I’m always writing and I have a new song coming out very soon…. 🙂

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My mom and dad, for sure. They have been so supportive my whole life and have really done an amazing job instilling work ethic into me as a child. I look back now on so many moments as a kid where I was so annoyed by them, but I’m so grateful they trusted their gut and taught my sister and I about work.

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
So. many. times.

This can be a very hard field of work. If you let it be, it will be. You have to find a way to overcome all of the strife and find your WHY.

Alright, so if you are open to it, let’s explore some philosophical questions that touch on your values and worldview. Is the public version of you the real you?
Not yet. This has been really tricky for me through the years. I really value privacy and I’m not really cool with the “rules”” of social media for artists, et.

Okay, so let’s keep going with one more question that means a lot to us: When do you feel most at peace?
When I’m outside. Bonus points if I hear morning doves.
