Hi Lord, thank you so much for joining us today. We’re thrilled to learn more about your journey, values and what you are currently working on. Let’s start with an ice breaker: What is something outside of work that is bringing you joy lately?
I have been so in tune with music lately. It seems like I’ve been feeling everything more deeply as of recent, and it’s made my relationship with music shine in the process.
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My name is Lord Gianci, and I own a clothing brand called Gianci. I’m a Michigan State fashion design graduate, and reside in Metro Detroit. Gianci aims to explore the human experience and our relationship with the world around us, including what we’ve created from it. I mainly execute this mission through surreal graphics and themes throughout the brand. At the time I’m writing this (Sunday, August 31st 2025), I’m coming off a beautifully progressive summer for the brand, highlighted by the new Brainstormer Hoodies selling out. I’m getting ready for the Fall/Winter season, which is usually Gianci’s better half of the year, and I can’t wait to experience what’s to come.
Thanks for sharing that. Would love to go back in time and hear about how your past might have impacted who you are today. What part of you has served its purpose and must now be released?
People pleasing. It’s gotten me in many situations, some of them fruitful but all of them draining, and I’m transitioning into a time of life that requires my priority to be myself and no one/thing else. It’s an adjustment, but it’s necessary and refreshing to feel like you have your own back.
Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
I hope this reaches someone with doubts about their passion. I can honestly with everything in me say that I have never had a time where I thought this wasn’t for me. I’ve never once considered giving up or ceasing my relationship with my passion in life. I would (and have in the past) be making clothes and bringing my ideas and visions to life even if nobody bought them. I don’t create because I have an audience to receive my creations, I create because I am a creator and that’s my spiritually fueled purpose. I feel it in my bones and I allow it to fuel me when the outside world doesn’t feel assuring enough. If your passions and interests come genuinely from within and not from some external influence you’re meant to pursue it and that should be enough to never consider quitting on it. Most doubt comes from some form of outside noise throwing you off your own focus. Follow your intuition.
Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. Whom do you admire for their character, not their power?
It’s no secret that Virgil Abloh is a big inspiration in my work and my overall philosophies regarding fashion. I think a lot of people admire him for his legacy and his ability to kind of pioneer and carve out a new lane in fashion for people previously less represented in the industry – and that’s an equally valid reason to admire him. I personally took to him because I saw the genuine passion, dedication, and artistry in what he did as a creative. I also saw in him a lot of who and what I set out to represent myself as a creative with a platform. A multimedia artist, creating in both the fashion and music realm, and focusing on what you can leave behind for the youth and giving them tools and resources to succeed in an otherwise cut-throat industry full of gatekeepers. That’s who I strive to be myself, and Virgil Abloh set a flawless example of what it could look like.
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. If you laid down your name, role, and possessions—what would remain?
Love. I really truly do everything and treat every connection with so much passion and love because I just feel so full of it. I want everybody to feel this feeling of appreciation for life and I hope that I am able to inspire those around me and show them that joy. If I have nothing else I have a love for life and all that it is. I love art, I love people, and I love the privilege we’ve been granted to spend these precious moments with each other as human beings sharing the world.
