Ana Hough shared their story and experiences with us recently and you can find our conversation below.
Good morning Ana, it’s such a great way to kick off the day – I think our readers will love hearing your stories, experiences and about how you think about life and work. Let’s jump right in? What are you being called to do now, that you may have been afraid of before?
Funnily enough, when I first started my business, the one thing I was truly afraid to touch was wedding photography. Now, that fear has completely shifted into a passion! I am currently in a phase of exciting expansion, moving beyond strictly family portraiture to encompass both weddings and families, which feels like a natural and rewarding evolution for my business!
Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
My life behind the lens is a passion that has matured throughout years and years of dedication to perfecting my art. My mission is to intentionally capture your life’s most precious moments so that you can remember them exactly as they were. My commitment to quality and honesty is why my editing style is true to life. A crucial detail that ensures every color is preserved perfectly because I believe clients should be able to look back and recall the exact shade of their mother’s gown.
After years, focused on families, I am now enthusiastically embracing a new chapter, expanding into both wedding and family photography! This exciting transition allows me to serve my clients throughout their entire journey from their “I do” to their first family portrait! Ensuring that every milestone is preserved with love and one artistic vision.
Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who taught you the most about work?
My dad certainly did! Growing up, I learned the meaning of ‘work’ not through lectures, but through the examples he set. With my mother being disabled, my dad took on the incredible dedication required to be the main provider for our family. He would often work late nights and start his mornings very early. But his lesson was about more than just earning a living. I watched him handle the cooking and cleaning for our family as well while maintaining the demanding schedule of five children. He taught me that true professionalism involves total commitment and service. Regardless of whether it is to your job or to your family. This instilled in me the dedication and tireless work ethic that drives my photography business today!
If you could say one kind thing to your younger self, what would it be?
I would tell her this truth: “You are exactly where you need to be to become exactly who you are meant to be. It’s okay that you feel sad, lost, and alone right now. That deep sense of isolation is actually building an immense capacity for empathy and resilience that will serve you every day. You don’t realize it, but the fight you’re in is creating your future success. You will build a life that is safe and meaningful, and you will use your art to help others hold onto their most precious moments. Keep showing up because you don’t just survive this, you make it glorious!”
Next, maybe we can discuss some of your foundational philosophies and views? Is the public version of you the real you?
Absolutely! For my work to be authentic, I have to be authentic! My clients hire me because they connect with my dedication and warmth and, that is precisely the person who shows up behind the camera!
Okay, we’ve made it essentially to the end. One last question before you go. What is the story you hope people tell about you when you’re gone?
I hope people tell the story about what I left with them, not just what I achieved for myself. I want them to say that I didn’t just take pictures, I saw them. I saw their struggles, their joy, and true, unfiltered meaning of their life. I hope they say I was the person who helped them hold onto what mattered most, their most precious moments. My life’s final testament is not my own portrait, but the artistic legacy I created through theirs.
I’ve told my husband and best friend that when I pass, I don’t want photos of myself. I want people to bring their most favorite portrait that I created for them and surround me with my life’s work.
I simply want my story to be that I preserved their precious moments, and in doing so, I made their memories everlasting.
