Karol Andres of Auburn Hills on Life, Lessons & Legacy

We recently had the chance to connect with Karol Andres and have shared our conversation below.

Karol, it’s always a pleasure to learn from you and your journey. Let’s start with a bit of a warmup: What battle are you avoiding?
Comparison!!!

One of the biggest battles I face as a photographer is comparison. In such a visually saturated world, it’s easy to measure my work, my pace, or my success against others in the industry. I’ve learned that comparison can quietly steal creativity and confidence if I let it. This journey has challenged me to stay grounded in my own vision, to remember why I picked up a camera in the first place, and to trust that my perspective and storytelling are valuable because they’re uniquely mine. Over time, that battle has actually strengthened my voice as an artist and reminded me that growth isn’t linear and it doesn’t need to look like anyone else’s!!

Can you briefly introduce yourself and share what makes you or your brand unique?
Hey I’m Karol!! Photography has always been my passion. It’s a passion I’ve been doing since a very young age, and I’ve always been fascinated by trying to instill an image in a natural way. It’s one of the reasons I’ve started photography, to add my unique perspective and creative vision capturing life through my lens. Being able to share beauty in all details and experience magical moments captured from within. Allowing others to see the shine they can produce!

When I’m asked, why I chose photography the answer is simple! It’s my life’s calling and true desire! I absolutely cherish being behind the camera 🙂 but more importantly its about you! I have loved every person my path has crossed and without you there would be no such experiences!

So a little about My Life: Outdoors is my element, I love adventures, travel, the forest and seas. Its not uncommon to see me licking rocks while at the lakes. Its the one place I can truly connect and allow the creative state to fully influence a grand experience. I’m a Mama to my love seeds, Atlas and Silas and Adorning Wife coming upon 2 years!

Amazing, so let’s take a moment to go back in time. Who saw you clearly before you could see yourself?
Oh my nana!!!

She took me on an adventure and let me borrow her camera to use in our Indiana trip, a few years later she printed off them photos and put them in frames to showcase how beautifully I could capture!! I didn’t realize it at the time as I thought she had just gotten me frames(they were macro shots of flowers). Then she informed me they were my photos and helped push me towards the artistic way💕

Was there ever a time you almost gave up?
When I get the moments of comparison, it is almost frequently!! I’ve learned that the way through those moments is community. Having people who see your growth, reflect your light back to you, and remind you of your value during the hard seasons is what makes the journey truly worthwhile. That realization is what inspired me to create Shutter Bug, an online collective for photographers, videographers, and photo editors to gather in a supportive space. A place where we uplift one another, share knowledge, and thrive together instead of competing. Because when creatives rise together, comparison loses its power.

Sure, so let’s go deeper into your values and how you think. What would your closest friends say really matters to you?
Honestly Family!!

My boys are my everything!!

Thank you so much for all of your openness so far. Maybe we can close with a future oriented question. If you knew you had 10 years left, what would you stop doing immediately?
Take in all the messy moments, the unfiltered ones and the ones that aren’t Instagram worthy!!
