Zachary, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Mixing Memories is owned by husband and wife, Zachary and Brittany Roberts. Zach used to be a middle school teacher in Plainwell and started this business during college. He has since left the public school system to work full time within the wedding industry.

Starting in 2015 as a bartending vendor for weddings and private events, Mixing Memories has since scaled into working around 300 events per year, at over 70 venues, with seventeen staff members. We now provide Bartending Services, Day of Coordination Services, DJ Services, Rental Services, and running/operating The Centennial Barn Wedding Venue in Wayland, MI.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I’ve never heard of a smooth road! Building a business, learning, and growing both personally and professionally has been one of the most fulfilling journeys we could imagine. From a vendor standpoint, identifying how to not only book leads, but maintain an incredible staff, and make sure that we always achieve our number one goal of making sure the bride’s vision is turned into a reality, has been the most fun aspect of being within the wedding industry. We would be nothing without our incredible staff of managers, day of coordinators, DJs, and mobile bartenders, and we always aim to take care of them, as they are the foundation of Mixing Memories.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Mixing Memories Weddings?
Mixing Memories Weddings does Mobile Bartending, DJing, Day of Coordination, and Decor rental all around the state. Our foundation is that our company has one objective. Every single bride and groom that we work with have a vision. Turing that vision into a reality is where we come in. By using one Company to be multiple vendors for their big day, allows them to minimize layers of communication, and trust that the Mixing Memories staff will work together as a team to make their big day stress-free, smooth, and everything they ever wanted. We’ve worked with over 3,500 couples since 2015 and the main reason we’ve seen such steady growth is that we get feedback from every single couple we’ve ever worked with to see what they appreciated, what we can get better at, and everything in between. The other important aspect of our growth is trusting and supporting our incredible staff and their dreams. We love to help those that have the entrepreneurial spirit, and allow them to achieve their dreams by starting their own business, or another service offering for Mixing Memories so that we can reach more brides/grooms and work together to reach out goals.

What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson my wife Brittany and I have learned is that collaboration is key. There are a million part time vendors in this industry, and instead of viewing them as competitors, we view them as collaborators that we can work with to make sure that our number one goal is achieved, and that is a happy Bride and Groom. Weddings are not possible without the collaboration of every vendor involved, and often times our success depends on the success of other vendors we work with. The same is to say about our staff. Rather than getting upset when a staff member wants to “start their own thing,” we work with them to make sure that they achieve their goals. In doing so, it allows for us to keep growing and expanding.
