Inspiring Conversations with Wynn Sarden of Wynning Foundation

Today we’d like to introduce you to Wynn Sarden.

Wynn Sarden

Hi Wynn, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today.
Embarking on this entrepreneurial journey wasn’t your typical story. It began in an unconventional manner, and while the process was far from traditional, I’m incredibly grateful for every twist and turn. The catalyst for founding The Wynning Foundation emerged from a dark period in my life, demanding an immense amount of resilience to stay focused on the greater purpose that seemed to be unfolding. It required a leap of faith fueled by hard work and an unwavering belief that I was on the right path.

In those initial stages, I was clueless about the specifics, but my diligence kicked in. I delved into acquiring knowledge on how to operate and run a foundation, aligning with my vision of serving the community by bridging gaps for those lacking essential resources. The journey may have started unconventionally, but it has evolved into a testament to dedication, faith, and a relentless pursuit of making a positive impact.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The journey has been anything but a smooth ride. I encountered numerous obstacles along the way, with one of the most significant challenges being diagnosed with stage 3 Hodgkin’s lymphoma in 2019. After a brief remission, I faced another blow with a stage 4 diagnosis just one month later. This led to unprecedented physical and mental challenges that demanded not just resilience but a complete embrace of the struggle.

The details of this battle, which I delve into extensively in my upcoming memoir set to release in 2024, became the catalyst for discovering a new purpose and mission that aligned perfectly with what I believe God had planned for me. Even amid the pandemic, navigating hospital stays solo, losing my vision, shedding 80 pounds, and enduring 22 days without food, water, or bowel movements, I persevered. It was in my weakest moments that I made the decision to become better than the pros at providing support and resources to marginalized communities, especially to those going through similar health struggles. This experience led me to establish a business or organization that not only brings personal purpose but also allows me to make a meaningful impact on the lives of others in need.

We’ve been impressed with Wynning Foundation, Inc., but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Dedication is at the heart of what I do. I’m committed to breaking down barriers and providing access to a diverse range of healthcare services for the underserved and disadvantaged. Beyond community outreach, we’re entering the hiring phase, actively contributing to the inclusion of more minority providers in our network, fostering both access and support for their professional development.

Specializing in enhancing the quality of life for cancer warriors, caretakers, and marginalized community members, we offer a spectrum of services. From mental health support to preventative care, free dental benefits where insurance falls short, assistance with vet expenses for service animals, medical expenses, and facilitating comforting visits to cancer hospitals or providing families access to enriching events they might otherwise miss.

What sets Wynning Foundation apart is our collaborative approach, emphasizing the collective impact we can achieve by working together instead of competing for resources. I pride myself on my hands-on involvement, walking hospital to hospital to offer assistance. Despite limited support, we’ve made significant progress across all our programs, expanding to new regions and gearing up for even greater impact.

Creating a business, especially a non-profit, comes with its challenges, but my motivation stems from the belief that putting others first leads to greater returns. As I navigate this philanthropic journey, I find fulfillment in the process, knowing that enduring hardships paves the way for lasting positive change.

Are there any books, apps, podcasts, or blogs that help you do your best?
Among my favorite books, “Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry” and “Mississippi Bridge” hold special places in my heart. However, my most cherished work is my upcoming memoir, set to release in January 2024. This self-published endeavor is a labor of love, and I anticipate it will offer solace and inspiration to those navigating dark times.

While many apps fail to captivate my attention, my focus remains on making progress in my work, driven by the belief that every step contributes to a greater purpose. I’d like to share that in addition to my upcoming memoir and the foundation’s work, I’ve curated merchandise available on wynnanthony.com. Each purchase contributes to the foundation’s mission, making it a meaningful way for supporters to get involved.
