Hi Whitney, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Photography has always been woven into my story. From an early fascination in grade school to picking up a camera again during one of the most meaningful seasons of my life—while pregnant with our third child—what began as a creative outlet quickly became a calling.
Nearly 14 years later, Whitney Leigh Photography stands as the result of passion, faith, and unwavering dedication.
In the early years, photography was pursued alongside a career in healthcare. For five years, I balanced motherhood, long shifts, and late nights spent building a brand from the ground up. Every spare moment was poured into learning, refining, and creating an experience rooted in both artistry and intention. The work was demanding, but the joy found in documenting families made every sacrifice worthwhile.
Eventually, I felt called to take a leap of faith. Trusting God, I stepped away from healthcare to pursue photography full time. That decision marked a turning point—one that allowed Whitney Leigh Photography to grow into something far greater than I ever imagined.
Today, what began as a one-woman endeavor has evolved into a thoughtfully run business supported by a dedicated team who helps ensure every detail is handled with care. It is an honor to document families through their most meaningful milestones, preserving moments that become part of their legacy. Each image is created with intention, emotion, and a deep appreciation for the stories unfolding in front of my lens.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
One of the greatest challenges along this journey has been learning that I couldn’t—and shouldn’t—do everything on my own. In the early years, every detail of the business rested solely on my shoulders. I wore every hat, made every decision, and carried the full weight of building something from the ground up.
As Whitney Leigh Photography continued to grow, I was faced with the difficult but necessary realization that growth required trust—trust in others and a willingness to release control. Letting go and inviting employees into the business was one of the hardest decisions I’ve made. It required vulnerability, faith, and a shift in how I viewed leadership.
Yet, that decision has proven to be one of the most fruitful blessings of this entire journey. Building a team of incredible individuals has not only strengthened the business, but elevated the experience for every client we serve. What was once a solitary pursuit is now a collaborative effort rooted in shared values, excellence, and care—and I’m deeply grateful for the growth that came from learning to let go.

Can you talk to us about how you think about risk?
For me, risk has never been about impulsive leaps—it has been about intentional trust. One of the most significant risks I’ve taken was stepping away from a stable career in healthcare to pursue photography full time. It wasn’t a decision made lightly, especially while raising a family, but it was one rooted in faith, preparation, and a clear vision for what I was building.
I believe risk looks different at every stage of growth. Early on, it meant investing time, education, and energy into a business before it had fully proven itself. Later, it meant releasing control—building a team, trusting others, and allowing the brand to grow beyond what I could manage alone. Each of these moments required faith, patience, and a willingness to be uncomfortable.
I don’t see risk as something to fear, but as an opportunity to align more fully with purpose. When approached thoughtfully and with intention, risk becomes a catalyst for growth. Every meaningful step forward in my business has come from trusting the process, staying grounded in my values, and believing that growth often lives just beyond comfort.
