Today we’d like to introduce you to Taylor Macias.
Taylor, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
My journey into real estate didn’t start when I got my license in 2021—it began years earlier in the aisles of Lowe’s. Nearly a decade as a manager taught me more than just how to balance customer satisfaction and schedules; it taught me how to understand people, solve problems, and help someone turn a house into a home. Those lessons would become the foundation of my real estate career.
Meanwhile, my husband, Alex, had already been navigating the world of real estate since 2016. He founded Macias Real Estate Services and quickly fell in love with the market, investing, and—most importantly—helping clients achieve their real estate dreams. Watching his passion unfold was inspiring, and I began to wonder what it would be like to create something meaningful alongside him.
Then came late 2020—a moment that shifted everything. After a serious bout with COVID, I found myself pausing, reflecting, and asking the big questions: What do I really want from my career? From my life? The answer was clear—I wanted something purposeful, something personal, and something that aligned with the life Alex and I were building together. Around the same time, Alex was ready to expand the team, and the opportunity to step into real estate presented itself. By February 2021, I had my license, and a new chapter began. We now have grown to having 2 agents on our team in addition to Alex and I, and this year we added a full time office manager.
Joining Alex wasn’t just about selling homes; it was about building a business, a vision, and a life we could be proud of. With two agents working side by side, we were able to serve more clients while also diving into real estate investing and home renovation. That’s how MW Homes was born. What started as a handful of flips has grown into a full-scale operation. Today, our renovation crew includes 12 full-time employees. Last year, we flipped 18 homes, this year we’re on track for 22, and our goal for next year is 35.
Watching both Macias Real Estate Services and MW Homes grow has been incredible—but the true reward comes in seeing the spaces we touch transform into places families love. For me, there’s nothing better than helping someone find not just a house, but a home.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, it hasn’t always been smooth. Being an entrepreneur, especially in real estate, comes with a unique set of challenges. Building a business from the ground up often means working tirelessly for years with little to show for it at first. It requires grit, sacrifice, and a willingness to weather uncertainty—and we’ve had our fair share of lessons along the way.
On the MW Homes side, the biggest challenges have often revolved around people. Learning who to hire, how to foster a positive and engaging culture, and how to get everyone bought into the vision isn’t something you figure out overnight. It’s been a journey of trial, error, and growth, one that has taught us that leadership isn’t just about making decisions—it’s about inspiring others to believe in the bigger picture.
On a personal level, real estate has a way of surfacing your deepest struggles. I tell every agent I coach this: the business will often poke at your fears, insecurities, and unhealed wounds. Facing these moments head-on—while still managing the day-to-day pressures of clients, contracts, and renovations—can feel overwhelming. But it’s also where the growth happens. Working through the discomfort, digging into why you respond the way you do, and confronting the doubts that creep in can be one of the most transformative experiences of your life.
There were moments when I honestly wondered, Can I really do this? Moments of doubt, vulnerability, and self-reflection. But sticking through the tough times, leaning on Alex for support, and being honest with myself has been worth it. Every challenge has shaped me into a better entrepreneur, a better partner, and a better version of myself—and it’s a reminder that sometimes the biggest struggles lead to the greatest growth.
As you know, we’re big fans of Macias Real Estate Services. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
At the heart of everything we do is a simple mission: helping people create spaces they love—whether that’s finding their dream home or transforming a house into a home through renovation. But beyond the houses themselves, what we care about most is taking care of the people around us. Our business is really twofold. Through Macias Real Estate Services, we guide buyers and sellers through one of life’s biggest decisions, helping them navigate the market with confidence, clarity, and care. Through MW Homes, we focus on real estate investing and home renovation—taking properties that need love and turning them into beautiful, functional spaces that will be enjoyed for years to come.
Flipping homes, for us, isn’t just about profit. We’re truly passionate about lending a helping hand and growing housing inventory in West Michigan and beyond. We don’t just give a quick cosmetic fix—we take homes in rough shape and transform them into something beautiful, livable, and lasting. There’s something inherently romantic about saving a home, especially those that are 40–100+ years old. I love being part of its story, knowing that our work preserves a place where new memories can be made and the home’s story continues.
On the Macias Real Estate side, clients get a completely different experience than with other agents. Not only do they receive the support and expertise of both Alex and me, but they also work with people who truly know houses. We recognize red flags, spot opportunities, and understand what it takes to renovate a property. With Alex as a licensed builder, we can help clients achieve virtually any real estate goal—investing, flipping, buying, or selling. From market knowledge to home evaluation, staging, design, and everything in between, we guide clients through the entire process with precision and care.
Taking care of people extends beyond business, too. Every month, we host micro community events where clients, friends, and neighbors can get together, meet new people, and just have some fun—on us. These gatherings are small but meaningful ways to connect and celebrate our community. Our biggest event of the year, however, is Fall Fest, our annual 5th Fall Appreciation Celebration held right on our property. Think of it as a fall carnival, complete with donuts, cider, bounce houses, a caricature artist, local mead tastings, pumpkin painting, and free professional photos. Last year, over 150 people attended, enjoying an afternoon full of laughter, connection, and celebration.
Ultimately, our work is about transformation and impact. Whether it’s helping someone purchase their first home, sell a property for top value, breathe new life into an old house, or bring people together through community events, our goal is to create spaces and experiences that will be cherished for years to come. We’re not just building or flipping homes—we’re preserving stories, shaping communities, and caring for the people who make it all worthwhile.
Are there any apps, books, podcasts, blogs or other resources you think our readers should check out?
When it comes to renovations and design, inspiration is everything. I lean heavily on Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok—they’re my go-to spaces for brainstorming ideas, discovering trends, and seeing how others are transforming their homes. Scrolling through a few images can spark new concepts, push me to experiment, and ultimately expand our brand’s aesthetic and approach to design.
I also draw inspiration from some powerhouse designers in the Grand Rapids area whose work I deeply admire, like Stoffer Homes and KLH Custom Homes. Their attention to detail, creativity, and ability to bring a vision to life is something I aspire to emulate in our own projects.
Beyond social media and local designers, I pay attention to home and lifestyle blogs that focus on interior design, architecture, and creative living. They give me insight into what’s trending while also reminding me to keep timeless appeal in mind. Exposure to other people’s creative processes—whether through photos, videos, or tutorials—helps me think differently and innovate within our own projects.
Even though I don’t rely on traditional books or podcasts as much, I do value content that blends inspiration with practical tips—anything that helps me see what’s possible, whether it’s in a renovation, a listing presentation, or simply making a space more livable and beautiful. For me, creativity fuels everything we do at MW Homes, and these platforms and people are a constant source of ideas, motivation, and excitement.
