Today we’d like to introduce you to Tara Stover.
Hi Tara, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Back in 2017 I opened my own clothing store in the heart of downtown Rochester with my father. My parents owned three clothing stores back in the 70s so this has always been a dream of mine. When COVID hit, I decided to close and focus on rebranding and launch an e-commerce lifestyle shop- Shoppe Cozette. Cozette is now located as a permanent pop-up inside The Good Day located in Downtown Birmingham. We carry clothing, home goods, loads of vintage pieces, and offer personal styling services.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Retail is one big rollercoaster. This has been a huge learning experience for me. When I launched Cozette I had just found out I was diagnosed with Stage 1 cancer. I had a really tough first year, but stuck with it and met so many wonderful people and connections through my work it’s been incredibly humbling and rewarding.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Shoppe Cozette is an online women’s lifestyle shop. I carry elevated basics and specialize in Vintage denim. I think what makes Cozette so special is the brands I carry. Almost all of my brands are sustainable and made with the highest quality fabrics. I have also recently launched my personal styling business – Styled By Tara. It’s been so fun working with my clients in their homes and offering closet clean-outs, personal styling , and personal shopping.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
Going up north every weekend to our cottage at Shanty Creek. We grew up a big ski family so that was my life as a child. Our condo was right on the black diamond hill so we would pop our skis on and off we went.
