Inspiring Conversations with Rosemarie Lewis of Yubehandmade

Today we’d like to introduce you to Rosemarie Lewis

Hi RoseMarie, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey started with a love for fashion that I’ve had since I was a child. I always knew I wanted to be part of the fashion industry, but I initially never thought I’d end up on the design side. About 25 years ago, I discovered crochet, and it completely transformed how I expressed myself creatively.

What began as a hobby quickly grew into a passion, and eventually, a business. I specialize in handmade swimwear, resort wear, and accessories, combining timeless craftsmanship with modern, stylish designs. Over the years, my brand, Yubehandmade Crochet, has gained recognition for its emphasis on slow fashion and sustainability.

I’ve had the privilege of showcasing my designs at Miami Swim Week and seeing my work published in numerous magazines. It hasn’t always been easy especially being self-funded and working through challenges like a recent setback that resulted in me taking sometime away from my passion, but my determination has never wavered.

Today, my focus is on creating an experience for my customers. When someone wears my pieces, I want them to feel confident, unique, and connected to the artistry behind the design. Seeing people embrace my work, whether for photoshoots, vacations, or everyday wear, makes every challenge worthwhile.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a smooth road, but every challenge has shaped me and my business into what they are today. One of the biggest hurdles has been building my crochet line without substantial funding. As a self-funded designer, I’ve had to be resourceful and creative in finding ways to scale my business while staying true to my values of sustainability and craftsmanship.

Despite many obstacles, my passion for what I do has kept me going. I’ve learned to adapt and persevere. Whether it’s balancing my creative vision with the realities of running a business or navigating life’s unexpected difficulties, I’ve remained committed to growing my brand and sharing my designs with the world.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My brand, Yubehandmade Crochet, is a leader in the crochet fashion industry, specializing in handmade swimwear, resort wear, and accessories. Each piece is meticulously crafted with an emphasis on slow fashion and sustainability, combining timeless artistry with modern designs.

What sets us apart is the experience we offer. My goal is to create designs that not only look beautiful but also make people feel confident, unique, and connected to the craftsmanship. Every stitch tells a story, and I want my customers to feel that when they wear my pieces whether they’re lounging poolside, attending a special event, or simply expressing their personal style.

One of the things I’m most proud of is seeing my work showcased during Miami Swim Week, Strands Fiber Arts Fashion Show and featured in various magazines. These milestones validate the love and effort I put into every design and inspire me to keep pushing boundaries.

I want readers to know that Yubehandmade Crochet is more than just fashion; it’s a statement about embracing individuality, supporting sustainable practices, and appreciating the artistry of handmade goods. Whether it’s for a vacation, a photoshoot, or a day out, my pieces are designed to make moments unforgettable.

How do you define success?
I define success as living in alignment with my passion and purpose while making a positive impact on others. For me, it’s not just about financial milestones or recognition although those are important it’s about creating something meaningful.

Success is seeing someone wear one of my designs and feeling confident, beautiful, and unique. It’s knowing that my work inspires people to embrace sustainable fashion and cherish the artistry behind handmade pieces.

It’s also about personal growth. Overcoming challenges, learning from setbacks, and continuing to pursue my vision despite obstacles. It’s so hard sometimes, but you have to push yourself forward.

Ultimately, success is about building a legacy that reflects my values and shows my children and others that with determination, resilience, and passion, you can turn your dreams into reality.
