Today we’d like to introduce you to Pilar Meyer-Dunning.
Hi Pilar, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
Hi, I’m Pilar (Pill-are). As far back as I can recall, I have enjoyed helping others. Ultimately sending me on the path to becoming a licensed mental health professional, I found so much joy in helping others. It took me years to figure out how to integrate all the things I learned for myself. Helping other people figure out their sh*t? Sure! Figuring out my own? Not as simple.
I created Cultivate because it’s what I wish I would have had — a place to learn, grow, and flourish into the woman I’m intended to be – guided by someone who has done it first.
My approach to coaching and mentoring is rooted in the belief that you are the authority in your life. I don’t pretend to have all the answers. I’m here to guide and support you through a process of reconnecting with yourself.
I’m a Chicago native, currently living on the west coast of Michigan with my partner, two kids, and a dog called Scout.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way? Looking back, would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Growing up, I always imagined myself as a ‘good girl, following the path of college, grad school, career as a social worker at a large non-profit. I followed that path for a long time – 15 years! For years, I convinced myself that working needed to be a sacrifice of myself, of my family, of my finances. It took a lot of inner work on myself to make the jump to therapeutic entrepreneurship full-time.
Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I created Cultivate to work with women who are ready to heal from trauma, discover their worth + reclaim their power.
My unique approach to therapy and coaching is rooted in the belief that my clients hold the power. I don’t have the solutions. Do I have the education, professional training, and licensing? Yes! But I am not the authority on individual lived experiences.
Through Cultivate, I offer the following services:
Individual Therapeutic Coaching Sessions – for the womxn who is seeking high-touch support to work through limiting beliefs and behaviors, set goals, and receive encouragement and support throughout the process.
Individual Therapy Sessions* – for the woman who is seeking high-touch support to process trauma, heal, and move forward to living the life that they desire. *Available for residents of Illinois, Michigan, and Utah
Clinical Supervision Sessions* – for women who are helping professionals in need of LCSW / LMSW supervision and mentorship. Through mentorship, we discuss professional goals and clinical consultation. *Available for residents of Illinois, Michigan, and Utah
What sort of changes are you expecting over the next 5-10 years?
Covid – pandemic shifted therapy and coaching from traditional in-person office visits to the flexible, virtual space. This trend will likely continue as it cuts out things that were often barriers to receiving services (transportation, childcare, commute time). I am able to connect with women all over the state, the US, and even the world!
