Hi Melissa, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today.
In June 2023, I transitioned from a successful career in professional and industrial recruiting by launching Sunset Jewelry Artisans LLC, an online jewelry business where, alongside my husband, we meticulously handcraft unique pieces of jewelry. Drawing on over five years of experience identifying top talent and matching them with opportunities, I’ve applied my skills to the intricate art of jewelry design.

However, we are more than just a husband-and-wife team — we are passionate artisans dedicated to crafting exceptional handmade jewelry. Located in Southeastern Michigan, our journey began with a shared love for creating unique pieces that resonate with jewelry enthusiasts across the United States. As the creators of our own stories, we meticulously source high-quality materials, ensuring each creation is a testament to our commitment to excellence. Every piece is thoughtfully made with our customers in mind, reflecting the fusion of creativity and craftsmanship.

We dream of being that go-to place for handcrafted treasures that just feel right. Picture a world where our unique pieces aren’t just accessories but become a part of your story. Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
I wouldn’t say it has been a rough road. More of a road with potholes. There is a bit of a learning curve if you have never owned a business. Learning about LLCs, taxes, what type of product you want to produce, pricing for the product, balancing all the different social media accounts, and designing a website that not only brings visitors but also turns those visitors into customers.

With the way the economy is right now, we are getting lookers but are still waiting for our first buyer. Our first buyer will be special to us, as will all of our customers. We understand the hesitation that may come when someone discovers a new business with no reviews as of yet. We are waiting and looking forward to providing the best customer experience we can.

Sunset Jewelry Artisans LLC began its journey in January 2024 with a passion for crafting exquisite handmade jewelry. Specializing in the artistry of natural stone and gemstone bead jewelry, our creations are a testament to the beauty of nature’s elements.

From captivating gemstone bead necklaces to elegant bracelets and earrings adorned with natural stones like tigers’ eyes and jasper, each piece is meticulously crafted with Sterling Silver accent beads and ear wires, ensuring unparalleled quality.

Distinguished by our commitment to artisanal craftsmanship, we avoid mass production, ensuring that each creation is truly one-of-a-kind. Our prices, ranging from $22 to $190, are designed to accommodate a spectrum of preferences without compromising on quality or craftsmanship.

Can you talk to us about happiness and what makes you happy?
There are a couple of things that make me happy. The first is spending time with my family in Northern Lower Michigan. It is our happy place where we can be outside in the fresh air riding our ATVs. My family means the world to me. I have two sons (ages 23 and 18), my husband and business partner Herb, and our dog Lilly (a German Shepherd). We can relax and disconnect from technology while up north, which is nice.

The other thing that makes me happy is helping others. In my previous line of work, I would help people find jobs that fit their needs or skill level. It was very rewarding being able to help someone find the right job. I’ve always been in a “Customer Service” type role where I help others.
