Today we’d like to introduce you to Maria Matson.
Hi Maria, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We have a serious lack of mental health services in our country. Due to Trauma I had suffered with PTSD, night terrors, and anxiety. Talk therapy was only a temporary fix. They could only teach you how to deal with what was happening to you in the moment. When I discovered Root Cause Therapy, I signed up to see what it was about. I received healing sessions during my training and realized that my PTSD and night terrors stopped. I was no longer having anxiety. My thinking was clearer, and I felt more present and in the moment.
Once I received my certificate, I offered classes online and in person. People were excited to shed their limiting beliefs, move forward in their lives, and be free of anxiety, PTSD, and night terrors.
I opened my office in February 2026 so I can give back to my community with workshops for empowerment, self-love, setting boundaries, and offer Root Cause Therapy healing sessions to release the trauma and beliefs that come with it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It took some time to gain momentum because this is a new modality, and the field of trauma is new territory. People are just beginning to understand it. We think of this as a mental health issue when in fact it is both mental and physical.
The majority of findings in the field are based in the medical profession, and medical doctors are finding the correlations. Dr. Gabor Mate broke ground with Trauma. He explains that trauma is the Greek word for wound. That causes emotional and mental pain as well as physical symptoms.
The most difficult part is educating people and letting them know there are options to feel better and lead a productive life.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
I am a companion therapist and can work with my clients’ therapist to accelerate their treatment. I provide the treatments and the therapist, my client and I discuss what was discovered in the session, how the client processed it, what they learned and the therapist helps them to rebuild that part of their lives.
This helps with addiction recovery and the relapse rate is very low after following this method.
I am also a business coach and recently launched a program that encompasses the Trauma-Informed Life Coaching, Root Cause Therapy treatments along with Business Coaching. This helps people that are stuck in their lives and want to move forward with business success. My clients learn how to maintain emotional regulation during stressful situation, setting goals and accountability to move the goals along, create an aligned marketing strategy to help find their ideal clients. Insight coaching to help build confidence and allow the client to discover their new thought processes.
This is a safe space for growth, healing and real transformation.
I also offer training for first responders or people who are in jobs that they deal first hand with the trauma. I provide tips on how to best serve someone who is experiencing trauma at the moment, help the first responders to develop best practices and healthy habits that will minimize stress and release the trauma so they do not carry somebody’s experience with them. This is especially important to help them release their own trauma which can be triggered by their experiences.
A lot of Domestic Violence advocates and Social Workers have already suffered unspeakable events, and this guides them to release the trauma from themselves and others.
What was your favorite childhood memory?
My favorite childhood memory is my grandfather taking me fishing to a historic covered bridge. When I was a child, vehicles were banned from driving on the bridge. It was a beautiful area. I did not care for fishing, but I loved to see the swans on the river, and in my childhood, that was the only river I had ever seen.
