Inspiring Conversations with Marc Bandy of Precision Auto Detailing & Ceramic Coatings

Today we’d like to introduce you to Marc Bandy. 

Hi Marc, so excited to have you on the platform. So, before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I started my detailing business while a senior in high school working out of my parents’ garage. I have always been an entrepreneur from a very little age. In 4th grade, I would make paper footballs, print out small NFL team logos, and sell them to other classmates. That was until I got caught by one of my teachers… While in 5th grade, I would make duct tape wallets and sell them to high school students for $3 a piece. In middle school, I found myself making lawn care business cards and doing lawn work around the neighborhood. At the age of 16, I had a few jobs, one of them being working at a local car wash and detail shop. That is where I got my first taste of detailing. I soon fell in love with it and decided to clean my own vehicle after a trip to the beach and posted it on my personal Facebook page. Soon enough, comments from friends and family started coming in asking if I could detail their vehicles. One thing led to another and I soon made a business Facebook page and a website ended up following a few months after. I would work every night after school and lacrosse in order to get jobs done, especially on the weekends (those were full days). I slowly got into working with ceramic coatings and detailing higher-end vehicles, all while working out of my parent’s garage on a dirt road. After I graduated, I continued to do this as a side thing to try and find a full-time job for my main passion, firefighting. In February of 2020, I made the decision to get an official place of business and signed my first building lease at the age of 19, going full-time into the business. Everything was going so well for the first month until March of 2020, COVID hit and shut me down. I had just invested everything I owned into a space and now had no income coming in. In May of 2020, I got my dream full-time firefighting job and continued to operate the business on the side and days off. I soon needed an employee and made my first hire in July 2020. As we started to get busier, we ran out of space at the current place. I decided to terminate that lease and sign a new one for a space 3x the size. We are still operating out of that location in Novi and I currently have 3 amazing team members helping this business grow. 

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It has not been a smooth road. The biggest struggle would have to be COVID hitting one month after spending all of my savings and signing a lease. I was terrified I just lost everything. The whole world was basically shut down and no one was out and about or even thinking about getting their vehicle detailed, no one was driving. During the first few weeks, I would drive out to my shop just to sit there and enjoy what I had while I had it thinking it would all go away soon when I ran out of money for rent and bills. Slowly but surely the phone started to ring more as months and weeks went on and I was able to re-coupe and keep the business alive and well. Soon enough, I was busier than I ever imagined.

We are Precision Auto Detailing & Ceramic Coatings. We specialize in ceramic coatings, paint protection film, and window tint. We do offer basic exterior detailing but we do NOT offer any interior detailing of any kind. We set ourselves apart by offering an experience rather than just providing a service. We want you and your vehicle to get the luxury treatment of a Ferrari, no matter what kind of vehicle you have. I am very proud of the way my team has grown and adapted to changes. They always come to work with a great attitude and take great care of the vehicles and clients in the shop. What’s next?
I always like to think ahead and keep planning for the future. I plan to have at least two locations serving the Ann Arbor area as well as the Novi/Northville area providing the best vehicle protection there is to offer. We plan to become one of the best automotive protection centers in the State of Michigan.
