Today we’d like to introduce you to Liz Wilcox.
Hi Liz, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
Hey hey! I’m Liz Wilcox and I currently run a website all about how digital product, e-commerce, and service-based businesses can use email marketing to increase their revenue. I’ve been working in the online space since 2016.
I grew up pretty poor and in my senior year of high school, I worked two jobs. This kind of hustle continued well into my 20s until I just knew I was meant for more and I finally went to college. I ended up getting a master’s degree in leadership, and working gig jobs to support myself along the way.
When I graduated, I still wasn’t ready for a “real job” so I took a bit of time off and then discovered blogging. It seemed perfect! I could work from home, it had limitless earning potential, and I could be my boss. (Something I had been doing for years anyway).
I started an RV travel blog and within 3 years has created over a dozen digital products and a steady enough income to sell the whole site to some of my early subscribers. As my travel blog grew, I couldn’t believe how many of my blogging buddies weren’t seeing success like mine. That’s when I knew I needed to sell that blog and go all in on teaching email marketing.
I mentioned that I grew up pretty poor. So discovering I could make money online by creating content and sending out emails? It felt like this hidden world had been opened to me! Like my whole life, I believed I had to work two jobs or get a doctorate or something to make enough money to get my family out of poverty.
But no! I could just be myself online, share my ideas and info, and real cash would go into my bank account! It was the wildest feeling. To hold this information back from others felt wrong.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
t’s not always been a smooth road. After all, I’ve owned three businesses in 7 years! It was hard even just figuring out what I was meant to do and teach.
I’ve lost relationships over my dream of building a business and getting myself out of poverty. I’ve lost countless hours of sleep due to technology not working properly, missed deadlines, and trying to figure out how to avoid every little mistake.
My biggest struggle though? Building systems and a team. Hands down. I’m a visionary with a lot of ideas. It’s hard for me to slow down and solidify a process, document it, and hire people to pick up these processes so I can focus on other things.
But it’s my main focus now that revenue is mostly predictable and steady.
Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Lizwilcox.com?
I’m known as the Fresh Princess of Email Marketing. That’s because I give a new, simple, and yes –fresh– take on email marketing.
I know it feels like a huge knot that you’ll never untangle, but that’s my specialty! To take that knot and show you just how simple it is to pull one side of the rope and see it all unfold. We’re talking revenue, engagement, clicks, replies, the works! After all, simplicity is my superpower.
I am known for my Email Staircase. This is a methodology that teaches email in 3 easy steps: follower –> friend –> customer.
I’m most proud of my membership. For just $9/month, I’m able to help people in 26 different countries on 6 continents not just learn about email marketing…but put it into action! It feels amazing to help people change the course of their businesses and lives for such an affordable price.
A lot of B2B advice out there is to be a high-dollar consultant. But I knew that wasn’t for me. I knew I wanted to help people who were just getting started. My membership is that solution and I couldn’t be celebrating that idea any harder.
What sets me apart? Other than my obsession with the ’90s? I have figured out a way to make information and resources accessible that normally is only available to people and companies who can pay premium prices. As an emerging leader in my space, I don’t want to be known for writing campaigns for *click-worthy* companies, where some measure of success was inevitable based on the sheer size of their leads.
I want to be known for helping brand-new small businesses and content creators design manageable funnels that change their lives and the lives of the ones they love the most.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
As much grace as I give others, I need to return the favor to myself. I was also on that show Survivor. Yes, it’s still on. And I had a few really tough moments out there. (Just Google it and you’ll know that’s the understatement of the year.)
But people had my back in those moments. They saw my feels as human and gave me grace. It made me realize that wow! I’m a human too and don’t need to be so hard on myself.
I’ve taken that back to my life and business.
